what law can i site?

i posted a screenshot a couple minutes ago but it got taken down. ill explain further here. basically, my shift leader said next Friday i must attend “fire safety training” at work. i said that because it's my day off I might have something medical going on, and my boss quickly shot back saying that if I don't have a doctor's note for my absence, I'll be written up. i only mentioned being busy that day bc again, my day off and im 90% sure i wouldn't be paid for attending the training for reference, im in New Jersey state. what law can i site about employees not having to be in the workplace if they're not being paid for their time? im positive i can get the doctor's note but I would like to know what to say in case I can't, and honestly just in case this happens…

basically, my shift leader said next Friday i must attend “fire safety training” at work. i said that because it's my day off I might have something medical going on, and my boss quickly shot back saying that if I don't have a doctor's note for my absence, I'll be written up. i only mentioned being busy that day bc again, my day off and im 90% sure i wouldn't be paid for attending the training

for reference, im in New Jersey state. what law can i site about employees not having to be in the workplace if they're not being paid for their time? im positive i can get the doctor's note but I would like to know what to say in case I can't, and honestly just in case this happens again in the future. this is the second time something like this has happened.
the first time was when during my second week of work, I was requested to go in on my day off to have my professional photo taken for the company system but I told them I was out of state – just like now, I didn't want to be bothered for free on my day off

i'm currently waiting for my shift leader to confirm if id be paid for showing up to the training, but we all know it's probably not likely she'll say yes

help?
