So I’ve finally been pushed and want to call it quits.

Dot point summary.

  1. I work for a NFP in healthcare.
  2. My boss is the CEO and has a dual role as a Director in another part of the company.
  3. The politics of the environment we work in is very tricky due to industry pressures
  4. The job however has great WFH benefits and no commute

My Boss:

  • has a demanding and complicated job that often pulls them away from their family

  • has been known to scream and yell when something goes wrong

  • shows up late and will not say good morning when they walk past everyone’s desks

  • often works until midnight every night and on weekends

  • has highly unpredictable moods and is very moody and throws tantrums

  • is very snakey and cuts costs at the detriment of the rest of us

  • deliberately underpays to save money

  • highly ambitious and very unrealistic in their approach to projects, timelines, and general expectations

  • treated my previous manager so badly they all but quit on the spot

  • very hard to get any sort of good feedback from but is generous with negative feedback and making a situation 100% your fault

  • happily underpaid me by $30,000 for 1.5 years until i asked for a payrise and they thought I was going to leave

  • has a decent relationship with me due to me being able to deliver what they ask (they trust me) and my ability to “grin and bear it”

  • they are also extremely flexible with WFH and do not care if I am online or not, as long as the work gets done and if I’ll be gone for 2+ hours I send a message (a very big perk)

My Team:
– dislikes / hates the boss but won’t say anything or stand up

  • we are all nice to each other though

  • all very demoralised and do what they need to do to survive

  • high turnover rate and new members are burned out within 6 weeks

  • our Senior Manager just resigned from their stable job of 8 years for a 12 month contract…lol

My coworker that I am fed up of

  • F A K E

  • is a manager (not my director line manager, and below the level of my boss) and gets paid probably double what I am paid

  • has a stressful and complicated job and also works weekends and late nights

  • is required to fly interstate and leave young family behind and also has some pretty bad family issues

  • sucks up the bosses ass and lies to the boss saying things can be delivered, but comes to ME at the 11th hour constantly asking me to do things

  • will compliment me for ‘saving them’ which just annoys me even more

  • completely weaponises their incompetence to the point that I am asked to help and then I am held responsible when things aren’t delivered

  • passes work on to other team members all the time and boss has asked me to report this when it happens

  • a bit of a creep and is overbearing. I try to avoid the office when they are there (leering over me when I am sat down, tapping me on the arm, making weird jokes)

I am finally at my breaking point after missing an important project deadline as this week. I sent a long email detailing how disappointed I was with Coworker I Am Fed Up Of to my Boss, who has asked me to tell them when Coworker is not contributing.

Boss read the email and didn’t reply, but met with me the next day (online) to say we will discuss it next week in person, BUT ‘I need to think about what I can be doing instead’ to get Coworker to do their job.

Is it not enough that I:

  • book time in their diary

  • email reminders

  • Teams reminders

  • book in-person meetings and sessions to get work done

  • and prompt Boss to tell them that the work is due and they need to contribute

????????

I am pissed off. My Boss is really great and turning situations around and washing their hands of any involvement.

I really don’t know what to say in this meeting. I usually just grin and bear it because it’s easier but now I’m ANGRY.

Please give me some responses to say when Boss tries to tell me that I am the one responsible.

(Yes I am looking for another job – which sadly means giving up my WFH benefits and high flexibility, but I am sick of this shit over the past 2 years)
