What’s up with viewing higher ups as celebrities?

Been working at this company for 3 years and I‘m (26) the youngest in my team, most of my colleagues are between 50-60. I‘m honestly just here for the money and to improve my skills. Earlier this year around 30% of colleagues were laid off and the CEOs told us there are no salary increases, events, trainings or bonuses planned for 2023. No one liked how they just laid off so many colleagues and friends and the future was looking grim for everyone left behind. I stayed either way. Fast forward to summer 2023. Last week they organized an after work party with food and drinks to raise morale and it was honestly fun. I hung out with my team mostly and noticed they kept pointing at people who were standing 10m away from us and excitedly whispering about how they were part of the higher management and that it’s unbelievable they showed up. Later on, everyone was having fun and dancing together and my senior came up to me and was like “I can’t believe someone that stands way above us is taking the time to just be dancing here with us, right now, so cool.” I found that pretty weird. They’re not celebrities. Just normal people who messed up the company’s finances and laid off hundreds of people because of their mistakes.

Does anyone else have colleagues like that? Is this common? I’ve been in home office most of the time for those 3 years and I feel so out of place. I don’t want to ever develop such a corpo slave mindset.
