What’s with jobs almost requiring overtime now?

So I’ve already done a few interviews in the last few weeks and I’m beginning to notice a pattern. When I ask these places if the job is a set schedule to verify that’s what I read was correct (as advertised in their job posting). I tell them I’m a student and my current job isn’t respecting my school schedule anymore, and then i reiterate that my school schedule would not interfere with a full time day job at all. They get all weird and ask stuff like “Are you opposed to overtime?”. Of course I tell them I’m willing to do overtime occasionally if it’s absolutely necessary, but for the most part I’m looking for a regular 9-5, 40 hours a week type deal so I can still manage my education. I’ve been kind of out of the loop with the job market the last few years and this never even used to be a requirement, especially for the type of jobs I apply for which are typically set schedule office jobs or clinic jobs. Have any of you noticed this too?
