No, no you are not.
If you want to strike then we need to get organized.
What to expect when striking:
Some companies may relocate to another state, or out of the country, or just plain close down. All in the name of greed. A lot lay offs right now anyways.
Some companies will up their wages slightly and dangle small sign on bonuses to entice folks to cross the picket line. They’ll pay someone else more money when that’s what we’ve been asking for this whole time. Source: see the dangling during COVID.
So, clearly they CAN pay more but have chosen not to until the threat of losing “real” money is looming over their heads.
There could potentially be violence. Look at the history of strikes in the U.S. That’s why we need to assembly peacefully, whatever that may look like, but peacefully.
How we can organize:
Big numbers do send a message. Especially when it brings the system to a halt.
We don’t have to assemble in the streets. We can stay home and bake, cook, delve into our hobbies, spend time with friends and family. Considering the current volatile state of the U.S. there are legitimate safety concerns.
We can assemble through social media while at home. While we strike we can bombard social media with our goals and with research. A flood of facts. It needs to be a unified message.
We can raise and maintain mutual aid funds. People will need funding for housing and food. I feel like everyone should grow huge gardens this year for spring and summer. Change does not come easy, typically and historically.
If we take to the streets, we SHOULD NOT engage with counter protestors. There will potentially be vile people looking to cause chaos. Stay peaceful. Play and sing relevant music but DO NOT party. It’s about numbers and sending a clear message.
Follow the laws. Get permits if needed. Do not give fuel for propaganda. Be safe.
We need clear and concise goals. It needs to be a short list and clear and concise.
Rough draft:
1)livable wages
2) access to affordable housing.
3) universal healthcare
4) “free” college (tax funded)
5) education funding. This should include trade schools as well.
6)social justice reform
I’d say start organizing now and plan for general strike for Christmas of this year. Stock up on food and save your money. I nation wide general strike isn’t going to be a bed of roses. We’ve got to do something though.
Tear this to shreds bit by bit. I do not care. Create a better plan if you can. I sincerely mean that. We just need to do something soon.
