I'm a fresh hire in an Internal Audit department of a bank. Not a small bank. First corporate job. It's important to mention that it's an Islamic bank and the documentation in Islamic banking is 5 times more than conventional banking.
So as an auditor I have to check many documents but my laptop is very old. Dell E6400. (Upgraded RAM to 3.45 gb)
Initially I thought it was an initiation ritual where, junior employees are given shitty laptops to work. However after 2 months I insisted that laptop be changed
IT guy said I can replace it with some other laptop in IT junkyard. But IT Head made excuses even to that. Our Head of Department is a big thing and he mailed that a new laptop be given. Budgeting side said that right now it's not in the budget of Audit department, new laptop will be sent in the middle of 2024.
It's been 6 months that I've been working on a laptop that freezes even while viewing a pdf file, connecting to internet slows it down. I have to restart. and as I said before, I have to cross checking many files for a single client. The laptop is older than the bank itself. It's atleast 3-4x slower than immediate senior's I've travelled to other cities for audit purpose and even employees of that city notice the laptop. Every IT guy in company says this laptop isn't built for this banking work.
Then why am I expected to complete the same work at same assignments as other employees with 3-10 years of experience and functional laptops? WITH THE SAME QUALITY (This is the most surprising part for me. There would be difference in work from an experienced employee and a fresh grad on probation)
I'm quitting (for other reasons). I'm not asking for solutions for laptop problems. Just asking how to tell my manager why my work is few hours late with minor corrections to be done (Manager (and Boss) is comparatively nice with me because Boss is a friend of a friend of a relative)
