I work at Hyatt hotel as a porter, not my usual business (I am a legal secretary by trade), but I’m stuck here for health and paying bills reasons for a couple more months. The managers are such incompetent, useless idiots who worry more about us sitting in front of guests and not making their bosses think we are lazy than about the very real fact that their hotel is falling to pieces around them and their own shit bosses refuse to fix anything, but they’re obsessed with getting better reviews by fixing problems with staff that don’t exist.
Our staff that stays is excellent myself included. All of our good reviews are because of our excellent service and all the bad reviews are all about mismanagement issues: bad location (it’s a rough neighborhood), broken amenities, low quality beds, etc.
I think if the non-immigrant staff raised enough of a stink, we could improve conditions so much for everyone, even get the managers replaced. I have tried to organize them but they are all so cynical and worried.
I get it but so many of them know as well that things could change… they just don’t want it on their plate. They know the managers are desperate for people to stay, they know we have leverage. I get it, I’m afraid of losing my job too.
But how the fuck can people live like this? Ordered and blamed and tortured by hypocrites who sit on their asses all day and call us lazy and useless?
Any tips on galvanizing my coworkers would be appreciated. The only one with any sense is this sweet Zoomer kid. She’s 18 and wiser than everyone else. Almost like a daughter to me.
