Why does this subreddit suddenly have so many people trying to whitewash and obscure the conditions faced by American workers and the poor?

Basically every post I see describing the horror show that is US society is filled to the brim with apologists and whitewashers and many many comments doing everything in their power to obscure what life in the US is like, why is that? Is it a concerted effort against a decently sized pro-labor subreddit? I see plenty of posts, especially ones with many comments, brimming with unsubtle US chauvinists and let's be honest, outright liars using whataboutism to pull the wool over people's eyes with the old “Well what about Japan!?” “Well what about literal warzones??” “Well what about the neocolonies???” tropes It's actually funny, because whenever you try rationalizing or justifying America's horrible work culture by pointing out Japan's slightly worse work culture literally all you're doing is pushing us closer to it. It's actually funny, because whenever you try rationalizing or justifying America's horrible work culture by pointing out Japan's slightly worse work culture literally all you're doing is pushing us closer to it. Whenever you try rationalizing America's worsening social crisis with “Well if you think being poor in America is bad try being poor in Haiti!”, again, you're just pushing us closer to that.

Once you concede that better is not a thing in your political imagination you've already admitted that things can only be worse, and they have been worse and worse ever since the average American accepted that there is no alternative.
