I mean aside from the obvious fact that you're stuck in a job you want to leave. Workday and ICIMS are prime examples. Why do I need to make an individual account for every single company that uses Workday/ICIMS? And to make it worse, they don't even communicate within the platform so I am forced to manually apply the first time for each company since there's no “last application” to use. I could apply to 4 positions with a single company and it only took an extra 5 minutes (maybe 20 minutes total) compared to the hour or more it would take for me to apply for 4 separate companies. And to make it all worse, no one (I would say less than 30% in my experience) posts salary ranges for positions so you have no clue if it's even worth the time and effort. Also, why do companies take so long for their hiring process (looking at you Pfizer!)? I have a couple of friends and my sister working for Pfizer and they all said it took literal MONTHS between application and starting the job. Not to mention how every individual job board (LinkedIn, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, etc.) requires their own accounts. And I haven't even gotten started on all the idiots in between the hiring manager and the candidates. For example, we had an internal position that we had already chosen someone for and were training them but corporate recruiters kept tossing his application for whatever reason and making it a headache. Years ago, I worked with a guy who applied online, came in a couple of days later to fill out a paper application, got hired, and had been working the job for almost a month when he got the “thanks for playing” e-mail from his online application (I was sitting next to him when he got this email and we laughed our asses off). Why is this process so needlessly complicated and why hasn't a better way been created? I'm only 30 but essentially my entire working life has been in this system and it has done nothing but gotten worse. I understand needing some system to sort through applicants efficiently but Jesus Christ there has to be a better way. LinkedIn has the idea with their “Easy Apply”, admittedly I have no idea how it functions on the backend. But an application shouldn't require much more than a few questions like “Do you have the required experience”, attach a resume, and send. Why the fuck do I have to attach a resume AND THEN fill in boxes that ask all of the shit that is listed on my resume?! It's ludicrous.
