My dream is that one day people will work 10 hour weeks and all have enough money to live very comfortably. With technology and AI progression, it doesn't seem that far out of reach, but here's why it is.
Imagine a world with 100 people and 1 company. All people in this world work for the company. John works for the company and makes 50k a year. An AI is developed to replace John's job entirely. Ideally, John would still make the 50k only not having to work! He can now spend his time developing AI to help automate his colleagues jobs so they can stay the same. Eventually, for arguments sake, the whole company's work is automated, all 100 employees are making their full salary without working, and it is a paradise.
In our world, the moment John's job is automated, John is out of a job and the 50k is funneled up to the CEO. John is now making no money. Let's say again, in this world, we automate all 100 jobs. Instead of 100 people living happily, 1 man is happy that he doesn't have to pay his 99 employees, and 99% are out in the cold.
What makes me so sad about this is that we have the ability to do it. Maybe we only automated 10% of jobs. In a great world it means the average work week drops by 10%, but in our world it means the rich increase their wealth by 10% and more people fall into unemployment/poverty..
Why oh why does our greed overtake our intelligence? Anyway that's my rant.
