Why would an employer currently in the legal process of filing for bankruptcy, be hiring?

Edit: It's Chapter 11 Why would an employer hire, while still in the process of filing bankruptcy? I was really hyped to come on with this employer, as it was a great offer. But while negotiating, I noticed some oddities in his responses- and in the contract. I started to wonder if they actually had a legal team, so I googled “[Company Name] legal” to try and find the “team.” And I found that the company is in an ongoing attempt to file bankruptcy. So obviously I'm not going to sign anything, or accept their offer. But I am wondering: what would be the purpose of hiring while filing bankruptcy. I'm fairly sure they wanted to use me for some kind of financial fix. But I'd like to hear y'all's thoughts on what that would have been. I can answer questions if y'all have them.
