Why would you opt out of 48 hour with on a salaried contract – UK?

OK so I'm going to be offered a new job but its salaried, with no paid overtime. Is there any reason why I should agree to opt out of thr 48 working week? I understand salaried positions are “paid for the job” but 48 hours a week is more than enough. Could I be punished or sacked for not signing the opt out? I feel like opt out has no benefits what so ever and I'm I'd be opting out of the safety net that stops businesses exploiting staff?
