wondering about I think fmla

Hi, I have a weird question I’ve been trying to look into, without notifying anyone in my company yet, about if I could qualify for a temporary paid leave of some sort after my brothers surgery. I doubt it, but it seemed specific that I figured I’d ask & hope that’s okay. We’re in NYS but he had brain tumors removed last month & now is extremely slow, like we don’t know if we’ll get him back slow. So we’re looking into relocating him & I really just need a few days to go see him, speak to the family with an extremely high chance that he’ll end up living with us for the foreseeable future. That would mean I’d need even more time to get doctors by me established right away, pack & move him, get some handicapped bathroom stuff installed etc. I just need some time during this.…

The way I’m reading this though is that they can’t penalize me for taking max 2weeks off unpaid/ I have some pto but it’s all one bucket & I do need to hold onto some in case of getting sick I’m not out $.
