So I work at a smaller family owned restaurant. I am also a full time student currently taking 8 units over the summer. When I first started working here the GM said they would work around my school schedule. A few months in they fired the GM and hired a new one, at first things were fine but slowly he’s been fighting me more and more on my schedule because of school. I gave him three months of notice that during summer classes I would need to go down to two days a week and he said that was fine. I even put my new availability in hot schedules which was then approved by management. He is now telling me my availability no longer works, that he never agreed to it in the first place, and that it would “basically be self resignation”, I’ve argued that he verbally accepted it and even accepted it on hot schedules, which he is denying even though I sent him email proof of it being approved. My question is what happens if he fires me/ lets me go? Can I collect unemployment? Can I fight this? I live in California.
