I (24M) just got my first “real” job after college. Junior engineering position for a small company. During my onboarding i was told “We do you guys a favor by starting work at 7am so we end at 3:30pm so you guys can get another job” I was so shocked. Being a 24yr old still living at home with my parents I am not worried about paying bills. But the majority of the people who work here are 35+. We were also told “Remember guys if you want to build wealth you need a side hustle, that’s why we end at 3:30. This job won’t be enough on its own.” I appreciate ending early as I am supported and dont need to work another job currently so i enjoy my afternoons. But to the people who work a part time job after this one, why stay at this job? Oh and they dont offer heath care even though we pull in around 800K a month.
So is it normal for these people to work an 8 hour day then go to another job because their main one doesn’t pay them enough? Or is this just shitty business practices?
