To start off, I work for a very large, well known company. I recently got a Write up/final warning for missing too many days (19). I’ve been there almost a year. I never got a warning, coaching, or counseling for this, and have an impeccable record, and do my job really well. Nobody complains about me, and I always do more than what I’m asked to do. My problem is this, I missed 2 weeks due to a family member being sick in the hospital, (my boss ok’d the time off) I worked a few days within that 2 weeks period, and it was a total of 10 days. There were 5 days I missed due to the weather and quite literally could not get to work (boss was ok with this, and there were several others who could not make it in.) So I’ve only missed 4 days that were unexpected due to being sick. Most of which have Drs notes. It is even stated in the write up that many of the reasons I missed were beyond my control. But since I got written up, if I call in, I have to email the supervisors and go into detail about why I’m missing work, they want ALL the details, and they have to deem that it was a legitimate reason, or else they’ll fire me. Im thinking about changing jobs, I like this job, most of the people I work with, but this is just ridiculous.
