Work in cybersecurity, salary employee, unlimited PTO
These past three weeks we've dealt with a serious security breach. It caused me to work Sun-Fri one week for a total of 105 hours (no joke) and the next week for a total of 58 hours, for a total of 163 hours in a 2 weeks.
This past week, I took off Monday to recover. Then I took off Friday as well.
Next week, I wanted to take off after 1pm (what would be half day) for thanksgiving travel. Boss asked me in front of everyone “so youre taking off that early before a break and you just took off Friday, and you have a week long conference after Thanksgiving?”
“Yes, I worked 20 business days (160 hours) in a matter of 10 business days (those two weeks of hell from the incident).”
“Ok, but you wont be at work for a whole week after thanksgiving”
“Yes ill be at a conference that was planned a month before this incident hit. That the company paid for. Its not a vacation though. Its 8 hours a day on cybersecurity talks and scenario discussions”
“I just think youll already be off for a week and a half and youre asking for another half day”
“Right, well I worked 20 business days worth of work in a matter of 10. Ive only given myself back 2 of those days. I didnt see asking for a half day on a day where most people are wrapping things up anyway for a long weekend would be too disruptive”
“Ok well we will talk about this when we meet” (referring to my performance eval in December)
Wtf?? Busted my ass burning my eyes out over log reviews and death by .csvs and I cant even get that off, after he knew how much I worked? Im not making it up, I was sending update emails sometimes at 1 in the morning
