The fact that it's as normalized as it is and people respond (oh, but I used to work 80-90 hours per week) is everything wrong with the US. I work at a private equity firm investing in the healthcare space, and before that I worked 2 years at a consulting firm, where I was in our M&A practice. For the past 3 years, I have consistently worked 60-70 hours per week. A lot more than that when I'm staffed on a live deal, and rarely less.
This is no way to live life. Having to block off time on my calendar (quite literally block off 6pm – 7:30pm) just to be able to do an evening activity on a random Thursday is so dystopian.
