Purely because if you weren't lucky enough to work from home and have everyone see how unnecessary office culture is, having to go to work as an essential worker was still better than being back to “normal” because corporate head office employees weren't considered essential. They're national visits to shops struggling to stay afloat were seen as the unnecessary literal plague they are.
Corporate head offices are so intolerable that a world shutting down pandemic feels like a better alternative.
