This is the current state here in Germany. Our social net provides free housing and covers housing related expenses fully. On the other side you have companies who pay a so called “above average” wage, that's how they advertise it. Above average means something like 1 Euro per hour more than the minimum wage of 12.5 Euros per hour.
To calculate the net income, you would do the following:
12.5 * 8(h) *22(working days)*0.60(after taxes) = 1320 Euros per month for a minimum wage job.
Subtract the cost of a very cheap apartment of approx 720 Euros per month, and you're left with exactly 600 Euros, like someone who is doing nothing, but has all the time to sleep, stay healthy, and enjoy life.
Just wanted to show some realistic numbers, so people can relate.
AND guess who is getting an increase next year by over 10% in net income? The unemployed person.
