I hear it all the time. “Your generation is lazy”, “Young people are so entitled, they don't even want to work anymore”, yadda yadda yadda
This is not true. At all. We're humans, after all. Creation, innovation, industriousness, they're part of our biology.
What isn't is the perverted system we somehow imposed on ourselves.
I(24M) have an apprenticeship and worked my craft for two years after that. I love the work I did, and I was always dilligent and passionate about it.
Did I get a raise? More responsibility? ANY form of recognition? Nothing.
It has gotten to a point where I couldn't even afford to keep my job despite working full time, because the cost of living here is skyrocketing and I had to move to a cheaper area. Asking for a raise was met with the afforementioned comments regarding entitlement and laziness. I'm not entitled or audacious, I am asking to be compensated in a meaningful way for the work I pour into your company. You raise your prices along with inflation but our wages stay the same how does that add up?
When I left, I was called ungrateful and lazy and good-for-nothing. But I know for fact I did good work.
I always tried my best to be respctful and calm about leaving, despite the sitation. I never got personal, and when I finally handed in my resignation, I was met with hateful aggression, REAL entitlement, blame shifting and gaslighting.
THIS is the reason why I'm anti-work. Not because I hate working, but because I hate working for the kind of people you inevitably end up working for.
