Workplace sent me a wrong check, now they want me to pay it back.

I was in a really toxic workplace and decided to leave for that matter. They sent me someone else’s check accidentally which was a little over what I should’ve gotten. I decided to cash in. Now they’re calling asking for the money back. Any advice to stick it up to them? Can I gen in trouble if I don’t comply?
