This happened a several months ago.
To start off I'm in the legal field. I was offered a new job assisting an attorney completing the paperwork for incoming clients as well as general research before handing it off to her. The expectations were that I be trained before doing anything so that I do it properly. During the initial interview I said as a point from my resume that I'm proficient with communication skills in the workplace (which will come in to play later).
My first day, I came in and was ready to do the work expecting that I would be trained and fully prepared for the work that was to be done. One younger lady (their early 20s my late 20s, not that it matters much) was supposed to train me and their last days were in the next two weeks. I was doing my onboarding paperwork as the attorney and I had discussed before I came in which the person training told me she was aware of. Within the first hour of doing the paperwork the attorney called me from her office which was 10 ft away and said “why haven't I seen any of your work yet?” I explained to her that I was in the middle of doing my onboarding as we discussed the day before and she said “What do you mean? You can do that on your own time. Not while I'm paying you.”
Immediately after that conversation I told the lady who was going to do my training that I don't think this job is right me and will not be accepting the job here. She told me “I don't blame you, that's why I'm quitting.”
When I told the attorney about my decision she said “you should have communicated with me that you felt this way. Your communication skills are why I wanted to hire you.”
I left. I still haven't been paid and I don't care one bit because I feel like I've dodged a bullet.
