There is a total solar eclipse passing over many cities in North America on Monday and if you are in the path of totality, it will be an incredible experience. Even if you're not in the path of totality, it is pretty special and you should be able to experience it if you want to.
If your employer tries to prevent you from seeing what may be a once-in-a-lifetime event for many of us, just go outside and look at it anyway. It would be cruel to stop someone from seeing it. You will regret missing it because you had to work.
Make sure you have ISO certified glasses though, or else make yourself a pinhole camera.
