10 years.. and now the handbook is causing me issues

TL;DR: Read what your employer stances are on second jobs!!! Especially child bonding leaves… I have been debating about posting but I’m just genuinely upset with how my company is handling my leave time. I understand I might be in the wrong in some case but… I’m just trying to provide… Been working at (your local massive retail chain) for about 10 years. Started as a deli worker making minimum and have worked my way to doing call center work (better then a normal call center) I have been an operator for about…5years? I was a manager for the grave yard team for 2 of them. We are the only department in the entire company that does what we do, so I know my team very well. Up till now I would have bent over back wards… Fiancé (27f) and I (28m) are about to have out 3rd boy here…

Been working at (your local massive retail chain) for about 10 years. Started as a deli worker making minimum and have worked my way to doing call center work (better then a normal call center) I have been an operator for about…5years? I was a manager for the grave yard team for 2 of them. We are the only department in the entire company that does what we do, so I know my team very well. Up till now I would have bent over back wards…

Fiancé (27f) and I (28m) are about to have out 3rd boy here soon. We are very excited. However my fiancé hasn’t been able to work much this time around (bigger baby and complications in the beginning) and we have been trying to ride out the time, but I needed to get a second job. About 3 months ago I picked up a weekend job. This job doesn’t and never has conflicted with my primary job. My secondary job has been way more then accommodating and understand they are 3rd priority after my other job and family.

After a mess up with Insurance and my Fmla I had to reach back out to them to get things clarified. I’m getting 7 weeks total, two of which are covered by my job and the rest im using my PTO.

The fun issue now… i was planning on working my second job while i was on leave, im part time and while it is a leave it is for Child bonding. My manager sent me an email Friday with a screen shot from the company handbook stating: While on leave the employee is unable to get supplemental income from another job or self employed, if i do it can void my fmla and i could lose my job…

Heart dropped… i cant provide with just one job.. gonna lose approx 1200 over 7 weeks…

I called Insurance again and asked about this rule.. they dont care, as long as i am not out for an injury and working another job then its fine…

I sent an email to my manager with regards to my time and clarifying what happened.. I stated my case one last time: “I appreciate the information in regards to my FMLA and my second job. Since this is a part time job and i dont qualify for leave there i was hoping to still be Abel to work a day or two to maintain employment and provide the supplementary income our family needs”

Managers reply: “This is not a (department) decision. This is a rule for FMLA”

My reply: “Appreciate the clarification, i have read the GO handbook and understand its a company rule not a insurance rule.”

Im over it.. i cant leave cause primary job provides the bacon… but man.. just sucks..
