Is it so wrong leaving family behind for higher paying job?

Long story short I'm so sick working for my current company. I'm doing so much long hours working for Directors and CEO of $1 billion company just to be paid $12k/year. I know I can get lucrative finance job if I move out. But it also means I have to leave my family behind. If anyone had similar experience of leaving family behind for job, are you regretting it?

Basics of unionization?

I have some questions about unionization that I can't seem to find straight answers anywhere online. I would love some insight, especially from your experience. These are some of my questions: Can you use company resources to propagate unionization material? Such as email lists or computers? Can you discuss unionizing on the clock? Specifically, are there legal protections to doing so? Does unionizing have to be a formal process? Or can employees generally agree to unionize and then let their manager know? If you have any other information that you think may be helpful to someone who is interested in unionizing, please feel free to give your insight!

Return to Office After Remote Working

I started a new job last August, it was remote work at the time due to Covid. It's now moving back into the office in the next 2 weeks, but I don't really need to be in the office to do my job. Due to the nature of the company I work with team members in other countries anyway. How do I argue to my manager to either pay me an extra hour a day for my commute, or convince them to let me remain remote? I hate the job anyway, and would gladly look for something else, I don't really care for it as a career if it comes to threatening to leave.

We need to talk about socialism in the workplace

I'm willing to bet that many of you think that socialism is when the government does stuff, and the more stuff the government does, the more socialist it is. First of all, that's just wrong, so jot that down. Socialism is the worker ownership and control of the means of production. Back in the olden days this meant owning factories, farms, etc., but obviously most of us aren't factory workers or farmers anymore: the means of production are the places where we work. The point of my post is to give you a sense of how socialism, as defined above, is implemented for rich white collar workers, but not for the average essential worker picking up your trash or stocking grocery shelves (you know, without which society would collapse). Essential worker White collar worker (e.g., me) actually does something useful I move pixels around on a screen makes minimum wage…

My corporate job’s travel arrangement is beyond pathetic and embarrassing.

I work for a global contract company that employs over 7k people. I work in a local/U.S. based office building, and travel was never part of the job description – though every once in awhile shit happens and they ask for volunteers to go help out in other places. However, this is happening more and more lately. The travel arrangement is thus: you pay for everything out of pocket. You pay for the plane, car rental, food, hotel, etc. Then you save all your receipts. Then you spend hours compiling everything and you file an expense report at the end of your trip. Then you wait anywhere from 4 weeks to 6 months to get reimbursed. Not only is this highly abnormal for a company of this size, this should be fucking illegal. But we still have people that volunteer for this bullshit. Managers/regional managers all get corporate cards that…
