Sainsburys are giving a decent pay rise to all it's workers calling it “investing in it's workers” with them calling it a “£100 million investment” in it's workers hoping to make a larger return with the idea that a pay rise will bring in greater revenue because the workers will work harder. It is refreshing as it seems like a step in the right direction however many other chains aren't exactly taking this approach. Could this work as an example to other chains to take this step? Also hoping if they do get a good return there could more investments like these.

Work related boomer advice sucks most of the time, but there are exceptions. Early in my career I had an amazing coworker who made sure I was taking care of myself. One thing she told me I’ll never forget was “HR works for the company, not you.” Have you ever gotten any actually good work advice from a boomer?
Let’s decipher the bullshit
Fake job postings
I work in IT and recently went through an interview and succeeded. I received a message prompting me to apply to a new custom posting for skills and that I would be hired regardless of its public nature as I've already been interviewed. The new job altered the title in some basic way as if it was a new postion. This posting was on all your general job boards (indeed, zip, etc). I couldn't help but remember applying to this exact postion years ago and feeling rejected for not succeeding. Keep in mind when you apply that they might not actually be looking.
If you went from $10 an hour to a middle class, salaried job that was easy to get, would you still despise working and want to overthrow the system?
Gonna just rant because I have nowhere else to talk about it. Sorry if it doesn't make a lot of sense, it was a lot of angry typing. I'm currently working as a licensed tech at a small veterinary clinic. Been there for over a year and a half now. At first I thought it was a pretty decent place, now it has devolved into a garbage fire. Like a lot of places, we are understaffed, but they refuse to hire any one new to help due to money. I'm making 20/hr which I thought was good for the area. I recently took a look around though and many many clinics are hiring for 23 to 24 an hr with benefits. We have a single tech to a doctor, most days have three doctors working and very rarely do we get a float person. We are constantly running behind and…
Can I start by saying I am in no way trying to boast that I'm doing well now. I don't see what that could achieve given it's anonymous, so I'm not using this to show off. I used to work for a large bank but I had an unimportant low paid job there. My team leader, a woman in her 40s (I was in my 20s) just seemed to pick on me and I honestly think she felt there was some competitive edge because we both used to go to the same gym at the same time before work. We once had a department charity thing where we would collectively have to cycle a certain distance on an exercise bike. Everyone did a 30 minute shift but it became a friendly unofficial competition to see who could cover the most distance in that 30 minutes. I took my turn immediately…
I see a lot of posts about people going to HR. HR is not your ally! They are there to protect the company from lawsuits and will probably not help your situation at all, unless it’s also in the company’s interest.
