So I’m in college. Like any college student I was looking for a job to help me get by. The management ended up being so bad I quit without a 2 weeks notice 8 hours before my shift was due to start. I just got my last paycheck and noticed I got a “lack of notice missed shift fee” taken out. Is this illegal? I feel like it is? I wanna know before I report it. It was just hourly pay so other than pissing some people off my lack of showing up didn’t really cost the company anything. I don’t understand the fee? I don’t wanna Dox myself completely but I’m in the USA
Month: April 2022
Title. I woke up around noon today. I look at my phone and see I have a notification saying my shifts for this week were changed. I look at it and I see they moved my day off to tomorrow and put me on the schedule for this afternoon. No calls. No texts. Nobody telling me a work in advance. I called out and send my boss a text and told her I was not available and therefore not coming. No response. Because to me, if unless I expressly consent to it, I am not coming in on less than a day's notice, I am unavailable. I am not going to drop my whole day because someone puts me on the schedule. Even if all I had planned was to lie in bed, I am not still available. What should I do now? I know there is a policy stating…
Withholding Wages
TLDR; An old man and his company have been giving me the runaround for three weeks and owe me over a grand in wages. I started working for an older man in my community about a month ago at his small home/business. Dude seemed really cool and relaxed and his business aspirations aligned with mine. I decided to take him up on his employment offer even though he said he only pays 10/hr, figuring the low wages weren't a big deal if I enjoyed what I did. I started working the next week even though I hadn't signed any employment paper work. When I asked him about it, he'd always give me some type of excuse about his associate taking care of it, and to just text him my information. When I asked him about when I would get paid, he said the company pays every two weeks. Fair enough.…
“It’s not your fault, its THEIRS…”
So at work a couple years ago (Petro-Can gas station), 5 mins after midnight, I just finished my shift. My coworker who took over for the next shift had to switch the gas prices, so I stayed a few more minutes to let him do that so I could man the cash register for him. There is a line-up in the store. Currently an older woman is packing up the groceries at the cash, taking a bit of time. – A younger woman (in her 30s) in line-up says: “Is there someone who could open the 2nd cash” – Me: “No there isn't.” (The midnight shift has only one register open from 12-8am.) The older woman feels self conscious and apologizes to the younger woman. -The younger woman: “Oh, no it's okay dear. It's not your fault, its theirs.” … OURS? Our fault!? Really? It's nobody's bloody fault, lady. It's…
I work construction, project to project. I had a foreman who volunteered our crew to work on a Sunday, total kiss ass to the super. we find this out end of a 12 hour day Saturday 7pm. Sunday noon, if you guys hurry up and finish up to this point we can go home early for 10 hours. it was a chunk of work, and rather than finishing up at 5pm, a 10 hour day, with our slave driven effort to make that level of production to “leave early” we got it done by 4pm. Start cleaning up, and foreman says, we are going to keep going and make it a 12 hour day. our typical is already 10 hours a day 6 days a week. We are on the road living out of a hotel, and have laundry and need rest. normally a Sunday isn't so bad…
I work in a healthcare facility. For the past week, management has been sending out texts like “Who unplugged my charger?” And texting about work rules that are not immediate. I spoke to another coworker and it was clear that the manager was attempting to manage via text because in person management does not speak or communicate. I asked to be removed from the group texts and asked any work related information be routed to my email or addressed on shift. Imagine the amount of texts from 20 plus coworkers and management on a daily basis. Well, I received a text about 20 minutes later stating I’m fired.
In two minds whether to leave my job.
Currently work in a slightly specialised feild in the UK (related to law). Have been with current company for 6 years, during that time all I have had is annual pay rises in line with inflation. I've recently been contacted for, and successful with, a job interview for what is a similar role, slightly more specialised, and a resounding 25% pay bump. My only worry is leaving the job I currently have, my boss is genuinly great, good training, no micromanagement, empathetic, allows holidays with no issue, essentially the best boss I have had. We've also worked fully from home for over 2 years now, with what looks like no view on returning to the office. I also know the company and my role inside out, so my days are pretty relaxed. The pay is the only issue I have, as with every performance review I've “only just missed out…
