we really need to stop complaining
The time for talk is well past. Complaining about how things are won't change anything.b It's time we show them that the world doesn't work if we refuse to. It is way past time for a cultural revolution. Prices are getting higher. We are getting poorer. Meanwhile the corporations are reporting record high profits. No one will change that for us. If we wait any longer, what could have been a peaceful revolution will require blood for the change that needs to happen. If we all stand together, we really can change things.
I work as a virtual teacher for a third party company that contracts you with a school for a certain amount of hours for a certain rate of pay. However, they sent this email out making it look personalized (but everyone got one) asking you if you would be willing to create a 30 minute presentation on six different areas. ….without pay. Of course, I said no. This is an endeavor that would require 1-2 hours of research and creation. Not to mention the times you’d have to spend presenting it to however many groups. Is this even legal? My husband says it isn’t illegal because it is a voluntary request. But can a company you work for based on a contract legally even ask you to “volunteer” your time to do work activities?
So over the summer of 2021 I was hired on my civic operations group, to help the community with COVID and other resources. Last year it actually felt like we were doing a service in the community. There were no quotas or anything. After returning this year a lot have changed was told it’s exactly like it was before except the dress code was different. Had to use all the money I had to get new cloths for this job. Then they also implemented a quota. One of which they didn’t tell me til my third day. Then on top of which I would be sent on to blocks with no houses and only business told not to go off that block to canvass but then fired for performance on my fourth day without receiving compensation for my gas. In fact I wasn’t even formally fired I was removed from…
I’m in awe at how bad some bosses are.
I've been a tech manager for most of my career now in some form or another, going on 33 years now. Mostly IT infrastructure or security. I started working as a Sr. Manager at a pretty large (5000+ employees) company 3 months ago. Some of the shit my team has been telling me just blows my mind. Maybe my second week there, one of my most senior engineers sends me a fucking essay asking to take a day off. He's been at the company for 26 years now. I honestly thought he was fucking with me. I called him up and informed him that I had a simple formula for coverage requirements when it came to PTO and he only needed to inform me of when he was taking time off, never ask for permission. He legit didn't believe me. It took me almost an hour with the whole team…
400 applications
I graduated in December, began applying to jobs in January, and have used a spreadsheet to track them. I have applied to 400 positions, many of which I would be overqualified or underpaid for. I have yet to get an offer for anything except a couple positions that were actually full-time volunteer positions with the chance to later become staff. I feel like I should have gotten something at this point. I have a professional degree from a top 10 university, 4 internships within my field, and just want to work at a nonprofit or government agency and feel like I'm making some difference in the world to fend off my own inner nihilism. All anyone from my parents to my therapist can tell me is that I shouldn't be so entitled. I don't have any right to make a decent living. I don't have any right to feel like…
