Drug testing for nicotine
I feel like this would be good with some upper limits and obviously a minimum wage would still need to be in place for those who's work isn't justified by a cost/savings. Hard to quantify how much a janitor is saving you while employing them earns you nothing. To clarify, not saying janitors deserve minimum wage, I personally think they are some of the most important members of the work force, keeping sickness down as well as a generally more pleasant work environment thanks to trash cans empty toilets cleaned and toilet paper restocked, tabletops and spills. These guys are the real heroes of a workspace. But as said they wouldn't benefit much at least not as far as I can see from such a law. I was wondering what would be some counter arguments to this? Also how many would actually agree with it?
8:30-5:30 or 9-5 for a $152 difference?
So I started a new job at a law firm, and I'm making $21 an hour. I am currently working from 9-5, except I have a one hour lunch break that is taken off, so I technically get paid for 7 hours a day. The boss asked me if I wanted to change my schedule to 8:30-5:30pm, so that way I could make 8 hours a day, and do the full 40 hours. Here's the breakdown of the checks for every 2 weeks(I took off the taxes for my state): 8:30-5:30(80hours): $1,255 9-5(70 hours): $1,103 Overall, it's about a $152 difference per check. Obviously, I would make more money, but I would have to wake up earlier and stay later. Should I take the offer, or keep my 9-5?? Is the $152 difference per check worth it? or should I just keep doing the schedule I had. Tbh, I like…
Coworker Camaraderie Necessary?
So I just wanted some perspectives on here about sharing your personal life with coworkers. Thus far, I’ve worked for four companies in the banking industry and have learned over time that it’s really just best to keep to yourself, and politely distance myself from coworkers in each job I transitioned to. Now, with my current job, all of my coworkers are in a completely different State. However, at this point they do know a bit about me — but very general things like how I have a daughter, I’m originally from a Pacific island, what my prior career roles have been. I don’t care to share additional details about my life, and whether it was the result of working remotely for two years, I prefer to keep to myself. To be honest, I like having a strictly professional relationship with coworkers. Yesterday, my boss made a comment that kind…
What can I do to get actual results?
About 5 years ago my company did a reorganization in my area. During this reorg they took the responsibilities of a L6 (level 6) position split the workload between 2 positions (which had additional responsibilities as well) and now ranked the positions at a L2 (level 2) I was one of these people. I did not know at the time that I was taking on L6 tasks at a L2 pay scale and ranking! The company presented this as a “lateral” move so I didn’t get any kind of bump in pay and it was said it was because I was going from one L2 to another L2 position. I was the only person taken out of my current role and put into a brand new role. Years later I need a job description to provide to my doctor and I received the description for a different L2 position. I…
