Is mandatory shift change legal??

I work for a certain airline and we just got notice of shift change bids. To explain this, as I've never heard of this bullshit before, every single employee (except managers of course) has now no schedule. Our regular hours are gone and we must now bid, yes bid, for new shifts. The works who have been here longer receive more “points” and can bid for their most wanted placement with greater success. Those who have recently been hired get smaller amounts of “points” and basically are given whatever is left over. I just got notice of this today and realize that while I am close to the top of this list regarding points, my normal hours are gone. I work 30 hours a week always friday, Monday, Saturday, and Sunday as all other days I am a full time student doing student teaching. That shift is gone. The only…

Possible tool for workers?

I'm sorry if this is something often talked about. I'm a bit new here and not familiar with the landscape. I was wondering if there was a website out there for workers to post about specific businesses, how they interview, the shenanigans, etc. Say, if Bob's Mercantile Hell interviewed you and the ad had said fulltime at $15/hr but when you got the job offer the pay was $15/hr and full-time after a six-month probationary period at $11/hr and a 30hr week. You could pull up the website, pull up Bob's and do a quick post about what went down. Other's looking to perhaps apply at Bob's would be warned. ​ Possible? Or would that be illegal?

3 hours unpaid work.

I am bartending for a large event in Australia today. It is very strict and includes being very specifically groomed (makeup team on site). My shift started at 8:30am in which I had to arrive TWO hours before my shift for my accreditation. This is not payed. To add, there is no parking so public transport is the only available option which takes an hour and a half where I from. My shift was then changed to 8am. Meaning I had to get here by 6am. I ended up somehow thankfully getting an Uber after 4 cancelled on me and I arrived at approx 5:57. Turns out the people that sign us on for our company aren’t even here. It’s 6:15 now. I had to pick up my friends from the airport last night and had a killer headache meaning I didn’t get to sleep till approx 2-2:30 meaning I’ve…

Possibly Getting Terminated Because of Company’s Shitty Website

So I recently got a part-time (I'm a college student)job at a fast-casual restaurant. Initially the hiring went well and interviews went well if anything the interviews were a bit bare bones, and I end up getting the job. Well, for two weeks after that their ADP website that I filled out my I9 on didn't show up in their system. No biggie, I'll check it again right? Of course not. It isn't showing up so I have to go into the place to do it on the general manager's laptop. Surely, now this will be the end of this buffoonery and I can get started and get paid! It worked, for some time, I started my training days, which was only 3 days of work training out of 2 weeks, which pissed me off because I had made clear I had pretty decent availability for being a student. Manager told busser to pocket tips from the tables he busses…

As the title implies, I work as a server, and our dish attendant was helping buss tables last night (we’re severely short staffed). He came up to me and handed me a $5 bill early in the night that was on one of my tables. He told me that the manager stopped him on his way over to me, and told him to pocket any money that’s left on the tables when he busses them. …..Am I overreacting to be furious at this? The dish attendant is a very kind older gentleman, and I know he would never steal tips, but there are other people in the store that if the manager had said this to, would have stolen without a second thought. Capitalism Rant

If capitalists played by the rules, then it would be an awesome system. Problem is, the rich don’t trickle it down like they should, or often not reinvest in their company. They hoard and hoard, find any little tax loophole, even go as far as buying entire city apartment complexes and hike the rent. And when they are finished they hide the rest in offshore accounts. There is a limit, however, when it gets ludicrous. When billionaires exist in a country of people sleeping on the streets. When the billionaires of Walmart don’t contribute to their company, actually having employees going to food stamp orientation on their first day of work. Then the employees on state assistance using any disposable income they have back purchasing Walmart items. Employers are nothing but RENTERS; you are the OWNER

Each of us owns our own “business.” We own the hours of our own lives, and our services and skills. An employer RENTS a portion of them from us. They are renters, not owners. It is not for a renter to unilaterally dictate to the owner how many hours the owner must rent. That decision must be agreed upon by both. If your employer is demanding more hours or services than you're willing to rent them, remember that you're the owner. You get to decide. Not the renter.

My exit interview was spectacular!

I have worked for this company for damn near 10 years and I just quit. My exit interview was amazing! Why don't you want to work with us anymore? Because your misogynistic press engineer refuses to let me further my career. What do you think about management? Well, it's an open secret that my supervisor (named names) sexually assaulted 2 women working under him and all they did was move the women to a different department. Would you recommend this work place to family or friends? I wouldn't recommend this place to my absolute worst enemy. What would you like to see changed in this facility?
