So I work at a fast food place, I am a 17M who works two jobs to support my family, and I go into work at 4, I go directly there from my other job or school and it’s the earliest I can make it, then I work until 10:30 and get out by 11 because of closing. However no one is provided a break unless you are scheduled to work more than 7 hours. If you’re a math genius you would notice that I work 6 and a half. That being said, I chatted with my manager explaining my situation and how that would leave me last eating at noon and not again until 11. So We arranged that I would get a 15 minute unpaid break to eat really quick everyday. Fast forward a couple of days, this work day has been ass, I’ve been given crap at…
Month: April 2022
Am an intersectional feminist. So when I see BIPOC women running in the office, becoming CEOs or whatever, guess what? I don't wanna celebrate! Cuz you are just going and shaking hands with the same oppressors who oppressed our ancestors and us too. Just that you got lucky and became this “self made billionaire woman” or whatever, you're betraying your community…like what?! And that's feminism?! And women romanticizing this grind culture is now another trendy thing. At least for their Instagram lives. Doing the same thing as Cis hetero patriarchs and white supremacists might feel powerful, but don't fall for this lie. Now I try to stay quiet cuz I don't wanna sound like I envy another woman's success. But babes, you got successful cuz there's a whole bunch of workers under you that work their ass off to make you look like this self made woman. 🤧
I used to work in a restaurant that had five locations and now they're down to two ever since there was a change of management. The owners are a husband and wife duo – and well, one day he steps down as the manager and she replaces him. That's when shit hits the fan. She allowed availabilities changes one month notice (so if you want Mondays off, it's gonna be in a month), only gave 15 mins of overtime pay, trained people to do tasks out of their mandates but the increase of pay depends on how long you worked there, and not the skills/tasks you do. Some of the people she fired are for justified reasons, but there were more people quitting and their relationship would turn sour. I didn't want that, I wanted us to part on good terms. I finished training new staff when I gave my…

Feeling Vindicated
I left a job last year because I found something that paid above minimum wage, gave me fully flexible hours, and let me get into an industry I've wanted to get into for a while. I was so happy to leave because the place I worked had MAJORLY bad vibes about it. The managerial team was really vigilant and micromanaged the shit out of everyone. I was once reprimanded for being late on my first day, because no one had told me how to get into the building. They also loved to remind everyone that they had cameras everywhere, and that they checked them frequently. This new guy starts at my new place of work and we're chatting about previous jobs and he mentions that he worked at my old work place, and so I'm naturally interested to hear about what he thought of it and his experience there. He…
Discussing pay with coworkers
Our company was bought by a bigger international company recently. I was speaking with a fairly new employee from the other company makes a bit more then me. When I asked for a raise that matches I was told to be careful. We aren't supposed to discuss wages. There's a company policy. Well one. 6 months into the takeover I still haven't seen a employee handbook. Two. Ontario has the Pay Transparency act that protects employees from being punished for discussing pay. So really what can they do? American Company taking over a Canadian Company. My thought is that it's nice they have this policy, but it has no teeth. What can they really do besides continue to not give me the raise I deserve?
So I drive a van for work every day, and my work phone is always connected to the radio through Bluetooth for taking calls from my boss, coworkers, or customers while en route to locations. Some people may find this odd but I don't listen to any music while driving. I prefer to be alone with my thoughts. So on that note I do not have the radio on or even the volume up. Also the volume for the radio and the volume fir the Bluetooth are separate. I never hear the radio. I guess however when my boss goes to move the vans in the morning the radio in my van is always cranked up and it startles him. He has mentioned this to me before and I've told him that I don't use the radio or turn the volume up. My phone automatically connects when I get in…
