I've been working all day everyday for about a year now. Whenever I don't have work I just feel useless and get depressed. The stuff I used to like doing isn't fun anymore. Didn't make relationships because I'm always busy. No one wants to date because we're all always working. Everyone just wants a quickie so they can get back to work. This world is hell.
Month: April 2022
Of course the answer is get another job. Trust me I’m looking. Also important context is that I’m a sucker and have been following the rules since August and a lot of folks just came back in Feb. Apart from their manager not caring – no this is a violation of their work agreements. It’s petty I know, but it’s indicative of every problem in this workplace. We are all currently on a continuum of in office/WFH with the new rule that if you want to keep your space you need to be in three days a week – otherwise you get a hotel cubicle (everything tbd). My issue is that folks right now lie about how many days they are in office – in violation of policy. Some managers care (like mine) and prevent you from having flexibility. Some managers don’t care and trust you. A lot of folks…
Amazon Prime Cancelation Day
Amazon has record profits but treats warehouse workers like shit, and now it will be blocking terms such as “slave labor,” “prison,” “plantation,” and “restrooms” from its internal messenger app. Yes, like a cartoon villain. How about all of us who pay amazon prime to cancel the service on the same day? Normally boycotts don't work, but if the idea gains traction, maybe a lot of cancelled accounts on the same day would send a message. But, to have a chance, we would need to give enough time for the idea to spread. Let's say, May 31st, 2022. What do you think? Any insights, critics or suggestions?
1 Year Performance Review
Engineering Office Western Canada Booming O&G industry So I’ve been busting my ass (at least been doing better than everyone else in my department) and my performance review was today. I wholeheartedly thought I’d at least be getting a raise equal to inflation (7+%) Went into the meeting feeing great, felt awesome the whole meeting, talked about achievements (basics performance review shit) then at the end, after pay was never brought up, my manager casually says “yeah so I’m super excited for your 4% increase” … am I the asshole here?
I understand the concept of having no phones on the job, especially if it’s super busy. But there are days where it’s going to be super slow to the point where you just literally stare off into space for 20-30 minutes. However, my supervisor purposely lets other people that are in the same position as me to be on their phone just chilling waiting for it to get busy again. I, on the other hand cannot be on my phone and I get told multiple times to put it away but the guy next to me and others nearby has privileges?? This pisses me off as I can only sit there, close my eyes and just nap it off or just stare into space. I know I’m probably gonna get some comments saying “why don’t you confront to your boss about it?” Well the thing is I can come off…
So I have a job that I quite like, but it's for a notoriously bad company. Massive, multi billion dollar, worldwide company that is famous for underpaying juniors. I have 2 years experience but was hired as an entry level. With a few other juniors with 0 experience. I got into the company via its graduate training program. And since my first job was while I was at university, I was both a graduate and experienced. Now, I could live with that. I thought fine I'll just prove myself. And I thought I did… I'm a junior but I've been given work that mid-senior positions would get, and was assigned work that the supervisor wanted to do. I asked my supervisor and my lead to vouch for me to be promoted and they both agreed. Then a friend and I decided to actually have a meeting with the department manager…
I am currently a teller/customer service representative at a small local bank. I love my coworkers, its a very tight knit community at the office and they make me feel appreciated. They bought my fiancé and I tons of housewarming gifts when we bought our house, and they've continued to be kind and friendly. I live very close to my workplace, so I walk, and every time the weather is not perfect I am offered a ride home. Considering I live a thousand miles away from any family, my work “family” means a lot to me. The pay is not great. In fact, with the duties I have been assigned during my year in this position, I believe it is awful. I open every type of deposit account, I route phone calls, I answer questions, you name it and I at the very least know how to do it because…
