So I had to take a job that was 20k less than what I was making because my old employer was mad at me quitting and seems to have successfully blocked me out of my industry in the area. So after over a month of looking after he cost me a job that would have furthered my career, now I have to take a job at Pizza Hut as manager. The pay sucks, but I need an income. Anyways, I went ahead and accepted their offer after a week. Now they can't seem to even get their on boarding right and the link they keep sending me is a dead link. I'm just ranting because I'm being forced to work for a shitty company because I've ran out of savings and need to support my family somehow and now I can't even start because they can't get their shit together.…
Month: April 2022
I don’t know if this is the right subreddit for this but I’m just so incredibly sad at the moment. I got fired today after just one month of working. I just recently moved to the country and was relying on this job to pay my rent. Now I’m completely broke with barely enough money for a ticket back to my home country.
Wage theft?
Yesterday I learned that my supervisor was waiting at the time clock to take down names of anyone that showed up before 3:28 ( normal clock out time). A coworker showed up at 3:26 and was scolded that she should still be working. Most of us clock in 5-6 minutes before our shift starts and get working. This is a Healthcare facility that is already short staffed. I told my coworkers that we should stop clocking in early and giving them our time. It adds up to 30 minutes per week which is 26 hours per year. Is any part of this considered wage theft? I'm convinced that they have no clue how to retain the employees they do have. Many have already left and I am in the process of doing the same. Edit: we are not paid until 7am but can clock in at 6:54.
I put in my notice after working at the same company for 8 years (interned in college and then joined full time when I graduated). I don’t have anything lined up, I just really want to take a break. I fucking hate capitalism but work in finance so I’m basically trying to figure out how to help a multibillion dollar company make more money every day. My work offered me a 12 month leave where I could recover from the burnout and come back. The kicker is that I asked about reinstating the 3 month sabbatical program during our all hands a few months ago and the CEO shot it down immediately despite a ton of employee support. Turns out they can offer 4x that and all you have to do is threaten to leave.
Executives are diseased.
We are losing staff that are not being allowed to work from home and potential new hires are declining interviews because they can't work from home. I voiced my displeasure with the policy and was told by the VP of OPs and the VP of Someone's Butthole that in office is the right move for the company. And worse yet, they insult my intelligence with that lie when everyone knows the policy is in place to stroke the CEOs ego who just moved us into a newly remodeled building, that includes a game room no one asked for and no one uses. Which, in turn, the CEO is bitter about. So out of touch with reality.
