I have worked a minimum wage retail job for about two years. I’ve only called out twice (snow storm and covid). My coworkers call out everyday and my managers beg me and guilt trip me to cover their shifts and work doubles. I requested 3 weekdays off about 2 months in advance to go on a camping trip. I specifically planned my trip during the week so I would have a better chance of it getting accepted rather then on a weekend. As I’m looking at my work schedule for the upcoming week my manager and coworker are sitting across from me and coworker goes “I’ve worked 7 days in a row!” And my manager looks at me and says “that’s because this little missy (me) keeps taking days off work.” I awkwardly laugh at her comment and as I’m leaving the break room, she goes “I can’t wait until…

An old employer calls to say he'd been sent a letter from the state saying I'd been on unemployment. “Are you doing alright?” he asks. I was. “I thought maybe you didn't have a job and was going to see if you wanted to come back to the warehouse.” “That's really nice of you.” “Yeah, see, I'm going to shut everything down, but after [manager] left a couple years ago I made him a lot of promises to get him back. So, he might be mad, and if he quits, I'm worried I won't be able to get all the shipments out.” He went on to say……. “Yeah, the state is forcing me to either give everyone 2 months' notice, or pay them that amount, like a severance.” The severance was off the table because he didn't think people should just “get paid,” even though 1 guy had been there…

I retired from the army at 20. I will make $30k annually from that and then about $12k on top of that in education benefits while school is covered. I believe $42k is enough to live off of while I’m finishing my bachelors and then I’ll get a job in my field once I get a degree. My mother does not agree with this. She said: “By the way….working is not only for the money!!! It is for the experience , knowledge, contacts, networking and meeting other people etc.etc.etc.” Can I not do all that by going to school and traveling? When she mentioned her future retirement I repeated her words back to her and she disowned me.

Hi all, I’m not sure if this belongs here though I’m confused on how to proceed with where I’m at. On the 22nd on May I emailed my manager asking if I could switch a shift for June 4th. He said all requests had to go through the app we use to keep track of them. Though the method he told me to do would make it so I’m putting in a request for time off, so I emailed him back and I haven’t heard from him. Granted, my workplace is short staffed and he is busy, though I won’t be available on that day and I need to figure out my schedule. I work tomorrow, so I could try and figure it out more. Are there any tips for working out this situation? I have tried getting someone to cover me, though no one is available to do so.…

I work as a teacher. If you want to change the holidays of an employee or the holidays you have set. You HAVE TO give two weeks' notice. It was mentioned to me casually three weeks ago with no kinda date in mind, just a causal. Around this time. It just got TOLD to me that we have teacher training a day which should have been a holiday day. That's under a week's notice. Oh, but when I give notice in. I have to give four weeks because that's what is required. If you respected my rights. Maybe if respect your wishes. Um, no, I didn't sign a contract with you guys. Giving two weeks is okay in my books.
