Boyfriend’s new job is paying him the same amount starting that he worked 3 years to get to

my boyfriend worked his ass off for this company for 3 years, when hired on he was pretty much promised the GM position from day one. after 3 years of grinding and being treated like shit by a boss who couldn’t handle his temper, he finally got the position, but at $5/hr than he was originally offered. he still took it because he loved the job and his coworkers and with the hope of upward mobility. however, as soon as he took over the position, he had no training and was expected to know how to do everything, was now being blamed for others mistakes, and taking the brunt of all of the owners temper tantrums. after being blamed for somebody else’s mistakes yet again, the owner blew up on him and told him that “maybe he wasn’t GM material.” that was the final straw for my boyfriend. he immediately…

Why isn’t pay going up? Rent and home prices, gas and food keep going up?

I'm trying to understand why jobs here pay the same as they did pre-covid. I live in a large city in the US and I haven't seen anyone raise wages, like anywhere. The cost of a small apartment now takes $60K a year to qualify, mcondalds is like $12 for a meal now. EVERY place still has the SAME LOW WAGES. I don't get it. I also don't get why home prices keep going up. I don't know who the hell is buying this stuff when everywhere pays so low.

A word about the Uvalde police and the school shooting.

This will probably be downvoted to the afterlife but I haven't seen this mentioned. I see a lot of discourse toward the police regarding them not entering the school upon arrival and it's completely understandable if it's true that they did not act as soon as they arrived. This whole thing is a damn shame. However let me just say these officers are probably making around 40k a year and are asked to put their lives on the line for that little, while politics absorbs most of the funds. It takes a special person to go towards the person with the AR-15 and not run away, special people deserve special compensation.

Work-life balance hostage to “business needs”

TL:DR at the bottom. I work for a company that does third party direct fulfillment. I am in a customer representative role where I send various reports on production to our customer and for internal management. There are only two people in this role, my counterpart and myself. They cover the day shift and I cover nights; I clock in at the exact same time they are clocking out, avoiding any lapse in coverage. That has been the norm since I was hired on direct at the beginning of the year. The supervisor knew I had a scheduling conflict when I was a temp department lead and recommended this role as there was no need for overtime, as reporting demand did not increase with production. 3 months into the role they decided they would like reporting coverage on the weekend since the leads were incompetent at running the hourly “product…
