Person orders 143 cans of waterloo only to cancel the order!!

So I work for a convenience store delivery company that delivers instore product to you. It's like other popular delivery apps but for stuff you'd find at a convenient store. We're well known in Pittsburgh and all across the northern and southern US. Today I got an order that blew my mind. I seriously had to refresh my scan to make sure I was seeing this right. 143 cans of waterloo. To clarify why this is crazy is that a big order for us is normally 10 to 20 items and that we don't sell these particular cans in 12 packs, no we sell them individually. I had to scan 143 F-ing cans!! It took me over 30 minutes to complete this order. Less then 5 minutes after I finished packing this order the customer canceled their order. Do you know what that means? I had to scan 143 F-ing…

I had a job interview yesterday

I just want enough income to not feel like I’m holding the people who support me back. I’m not greedy or lazy. I live as simply as I can while maintaining some semblance of mental health and participation in society, but things break and emergencies happen and I unfortunately need money to survive. A friend of a friend referred me for a job at a small business. I went in and interviewed with the owner, got the tour, and talked to the other employees. When I asked how much the job paid, the owner said we should step outside and discuss it. $9.50/hr. Fucking $9.50/hr. Barely $300/wk after taxes. I just emailed the interviewer and told her that was way too low an offer for me to accept. I just want to do something worthwhile with the limited time I have on this rock.

I Can’t Physically Care Anymore

I've made mistakes out the ass at work. I can barely walk in the door without wanting to vomit. My values aren't shared by the corporate bureaucracy of the system. My life feels like it's spinning in the mud of monotony! The worst part is the challenge. There is none. Zero challenge creates repetitive routines you must endure to complete the work. Issues arise when you take into account that human error increases with boredom and dissatisfaction – both of which I have in spades! Fucking spades! I'm beyond happy I'm going to be leaving in a few months with a career change, but hot damn is it sad to see myself hurting and making mistakes. The simplicity of the challenge coupled with the failure of said challenge is what stings. I'm smart. I'm intelligent enough to perform the tasks, yet I'm making error after error because I'm numb. Numbness…

Get everything in writing, no matter what work you do!

I see so many posts here about people being hired or retained with a verbal agreement of a perk or benefit, and then management pulls the bait and switch. So much hassle can be saved by sending a friendly email to “confirm what was said in our previous conversation”. If your employer has a problem confirming what they said in writing, you already have an unsustainable situation.

Bachelor’s degree by earning American minimum wage for 3 years in Germany

In Germany it is possible to obtain a bachelor's degree by participating in a 3 year program combining academic and vocational training. During that time you can earn according to this article https://www.che.de/en/2022/dual-studies-in-germany-federal-states-differ-widely-in-terms-of-study-options-and-demand/ on average 1,115 EUR a month (see end of third paragraph) which is pretty close to the American minimum wage. There is also no tuition fees. Honestly, companies have to accept you for such an apprenticeship and most students in Germany study “the normal way”. You will also not be able to make an academic career at a university. However, I just wanted to let you know what outside the United States is possible.

Is this illegal??

I applied to this pizza restaurant on zip recruiter. The application says $25-32/hr. I assumed base pay was $25 and with tips you could make up to $32. And I was dumb enough to not ask them in person what the pay was. Never again. Anyway I just finished my first week, there has been no mention of pay even once since the application. Not in the interview, onboarding or anything. I check on my earnings through the app we use and calculate my per hour and it comes out to $15.80! I just consulted my manager about this and she said “yeah with tips it should come out to $25, so you’re good.” Even with tips it’s only come out to $19/hr max. Is this illegal, as in false advertising or something? I still have a screenshot of the application

I resigned from my shitty job and they tried to make me stay longer

I finally resigned from my job after a couple years of dealing with their toxic behaviors, absurd working hour requirements, and lack of professionalism. Upon telling my boss and my project manager about me leaving, the project manager told me I had to stay longer because the company and my projects need me, and this is a really bad time for me to leave. I reiterated that ___ was my preferred end date and she said “I going to write down (5 days later). You’re required to stay as long as we need you according to your employee contract” I sent a firm email later that night stating there was nothing in the contract about resignations, and that I will be leaving on the date I originally stated. I still haven’t gotten a response to that email, and her and other management people have removed me from multiple meetings and…

Went to a Dollar Tree in RVA over the weekend and BOY was there tea!

So on Sunday, I working InstaCart so I could pay off my car insurance and the first two order I did were at two different Dollar Trees. First one was fast. Cool! Then I drove to the second one….it started when I got out of my car and the staff members outside the door was letting people know that “my coworker is still walking to work and she is the only one with a key to the store so it may be about a 30 minute wait.” I just went back to my car, contemplated cancelling the order and thought, “Jesus christ its freezing, does this company not even pay enough for bus fares? That fucking sucks!” Thankfully like 5 minutes later, the woman, who i presumed was a manager, arrived in someone’s car and the store opened up. The worker outside was super young and kept apologizing for the…
