I just quit my job and my boss wants me to pay them back for sick leave due to a riddor whear I cut my hand open on shift (uk) I need to know if this is extortion or if I need to pay it back
I’m no lawer but….
So. Long story short I'm under contract to give a 30 day notice… But I just can't stand working for my boss anymore. My notice has been given and want to just stop showing up. My contract TECHNICALLY states that: myself or employer may terminate the contract with 30 day written notice OR end of eploy. Which I'm interpreting as quitting? There are no penalty clause except for I can “compete” in a 15 mile radius for 18 months. So my question is; am I liable if I just quit? Can racist, sexist boss sue me?
So this is definitely going to be a bit of a different post than what I usually see here, but I would not of been able to stand up for myself the way I did if it had not been for seeing the posts in this sub. So I tour with bands for a living. I usually run their lights but I took this guitar tech gig because the money was okay and I didn’t have much else going on, plus I’ve teched guitars in the past and play a bit myself. I was told I would be the guitar tech, keyboard tech, and drum tech. okay cool no problem since I’m told that everyone is super chill and they know I’m stretched between all 3 and no one will demand much out of me. I get to our tour starting point, Italy, and start getting to work during rehearsals…
Thoughts on trial
So I went to a trial for a job at a Vege pick pack place. At first it was going pretty well and they seemed really organised, then the boss started speeding up and getting quite panicked making everyone double their orders, this in turn made me panic and speed up, raising my anxiety from a hey this is a pretty normal seeming job and trial to oh shit this guy means business. We were meant to finish at 4 and at 3.30 no one was moving to clean up this massive warehouse full of food so I asked what was happening and he said to get all the food away with this other guy. I start getting it all ready and tidying up then I see the other guy is going home, I then ask what’s happening again as I’m assuming I’m going too as this is a trial…
I started working at a public institution exactly a year ago. I knew I'd need to go back to university in September, so I stated during the interview that I would be staying for a year only. They were fully aware of this when they decided to hire me. Spring rolls around, and I hand in a two-month notice in May. (Two months because a) I anticipated a lot of administrative traps & craps and wanted to make sure there's time to figure out everything; and b) when a team member had quit before, management gave them a lot of shit for not giving at least a two-month notice). Policy is that all three of my bosses (in hierarchical order) and HR need to sign the notice for it to take effect. Again, this is how administration works in my country – all public institutions operate under similar policies here.…
I know you've probably heard it all before, but I need to rant. I hate my current job, not because it's hard, it's just very boring. I work around 1 hour a day of my 8 hour office job, the rest is spent browsing reddit, twitter, tiktok etc. The work is boring and sparse, my boss is horrible and the commute isn't fun, and I have to be in the office 4/5 days for absolutely no reason other than my dinosaur boss thinks it's the “only way” to get work done (he is never even in, and when he does he doesn't do much). Plus, they pay is shit, and below the London living wage. I've started applying for more jobs, for better salary and to do something I actually want to get in to. And also for my own sanity. One asked me for a Video CV, where I…
Joined a new job. Yesterday, the boss man names a few people (within earshot if everyone) and asks if they want to grab a beer. Wtf! Either ask everyone or ask your “favorites” privately.
