My coworker was just give notice that they are taking her off the schedule for 30 days without pay to work on her skin condition she has psoriasis and extreme case it’s all over her body. We do work in a restaurant but there’s no health code saying she can’t work with it because it’s not contagious and we don’t even have any negative reviews about it as well. It’s a “small” family owned business if you count 18 locations still owned by the same owner a small business. She has worked for the company for two years and worked at a different location when she was a teenager what changed we are not sure. Any advice? Sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes I’m super dyslexic and tired they over work me for a non manager.
My manager at a big chain restaurant Paul is Indian (needed for context) and was very rude, cussing me out constantly, saying I was rude and disrespectful because I asked him to wear gloves when touching food. A little later another manager Sam (he’s very old and white) pulled me aside one night and said “if I want an easier time at work I need to submit to Paul because he’s Indian and needs to dominate women it’s his culture” I asked if Paul said that to him or if he was assuming based on his race and culture and he said no and I lectured him on how racist and sexist that is and he sends me home early because of that as punishment. The next day I handed in my 2 weeks notice to my GM, and explained what happened. The GM was mortified and upset. I got…
This was a while back but I wanted to share I visited some friends, and when we got there there were 4 other couples, all of us with kids. One of our good friends said she had a baby sitter lined up for the kids. There were, in all, 5 children. Three were 10-12, and the other two were ages 5-7. That's a hell of a job for anyone, let alone a teen. Our friend said this teen has been over numerous times with her mom and has always done well with the kids. This was her first time watching them alone, as a job. After being reassured, I said “OK, my wife and I are in and will pitch in whatever” We all went out to dinner and hit the casino for an hour. I said we were going to head home to turn in. …
What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-
I work for a vendor where I get contracted out. I’ve been working for company X. On Tuesday the vendor messages me at around 4 pm and let’s me know company X has terminated my contract and Tuesday is my last day. This comes as a surprise, and the boss at company X didn’t work on Tuesday. I called the boss to get an explanation of why I’m getting let go and they agree to meet with me the next day to explain. On Wednesday morning the boss basically explains they were unhappy with my work and points out a bunch of things that were out of my control. Whatever, what’s done is done. I returned all their equipment and now I’m fretting how I’m going to pay my bills and looking for a new gig. Today the vendor contacts me and says company X reached out and wants me…
So I'm a scientist, I also teach courses. We had a shortage of instructors for the last year and they've been hiring instructors from nearby colleges to do one-offs and paying them 2x for it. The lab courses are needed but they're at a sht-ton of work. Since I've taught those courses at least 10+ times they always try to get me to volunteer to instruct. I told the lab supervisor I wasn't going to do it unless they pay me what scabs get. Otherwise I'm teaching lecture courses which pay 1.5x what lab instruction gets. He actually broke down and cleared the scab pay but I'm going to be contracted that semester and will also have my regular responsibilities so essentially 2x my regular work load for 3x the pay.
I love how stupid some people are.
Sorry about it being click-bait-y. But I love that I quit my job, and now the Assistant Manager and the Manager and the Owner have to do more work. You know what would have solved it? If the AM kept to her own business. And if the Manager continued to let me take my breaks together (not just at the start to be nice). And if the Owner told the Manager to let me take my breaks together. Social skills people!! It makes a difference!! No matter how smart or successful you are!! Coming from a person that has just graduated from a business degree, people can be so stupid sometimes. Like it literally wouldn't have made any negative difference to the company if they let me put my short break with my longer break. I know I am a good worker. Let this be a lesson to everyone who…
