Based on some of the things I have heard my boss say about the women in his life, and about women in general, I have a conspiracy theory about the automatic motion sensing lights in the bathrooms at my job. There are two single stall bathrooms, one marked men and one marked women. Employees use either one though, no one cares. Except I have noticed something. There are motion activated lights in both bathrooms. Fine, saves some money and the planet. HOWEVER, the “ladies” room has a timer that turns the lights off after 1 minute. The “Mens” room is 5 minutes. There is not a direct sight line to the motion sensor in either room, so you have to literally get up off the seat if you are not finished with your business and wave around a corner to get the lights back on. It's such a bananas idea…
Recently my health has gotten to the point where I need a chair at work (cashier) and I turned in a doctor's note explaining exactly that. My manager calls me and tells me everything about HR investigating me, and what makes me so mad is that everything they're doing is perfectly legal and above board and there's nothing I can do but wait to see what they say. All I asked for is a chair. I'm quitting regardless of if they approve my request or not. They made me fight for this and now they're punishing me for fighting at all. I can't survive in this kind of environment.
It’s super easy to not get hired
I was/am a software engineer with 40 years experience. I know 15-20 languages, a dozen or so operating systems, virtual, cloud, micro services, full stack, etc. Lots of professional certifications, Masters degree, chairperson of a variety of standards bodies. You get the idea. All you have to do is say you’ve got so much experience that you’ve programmed on discrete transistor computers and you’ll never get a call. You’re old.
A couple of weeks ago I posted about the district manager and how awful she treated the employees; HR contacted her after tweeting about it and they insured us that it was being escalated to upper management and it would not happen again. Well today my daughter gets her paycheck after having been told three weeks ago that she was getting a pay increase to $13.50 from the base pay of $10. Mind you she is an assistant manager at 18 years old and the longest employee in the store at 11 months! She has been running the store while they looked for a new store manager and training employees all while making the same base pay that the new hires make which is why she asked for a pay increase three months ago they finally told her this month that she was getting it, well today she gets her…
