I have been with my current employer for about 4 years. During that time I've applied for, two jobs within the organization and the response to both of them was exactly the same (additional details below). Nothing, literally nothing. No acknowledgement of my application, definitely no interview, and not even a form letter saying we've decided to go in a different direction. Details: Position #1 – One year in to the organization, a position opened up. It would have been a, one step up promotion. Same department, different location. The position required a specific skill set, to which in my last job I traveled the country teaching people how to do this work and working as an engineer to improve the process. I was more than qualified for the job. They gave it to their preferred individual, who now two years later will be terminated for poor performance. Promotion #1…

I quit my manager job that I enjoyed greatly. The team was good and I was happy, but for me to have health insurance; just health insurance mind you is $800 every month. They don’t offer, dental or vision insurance. I’d be working one week every month to just afford health insurance for my wife, daughter and myself. Why? I quit and accepted a hourly job so I could get affordable health insurance. I’m still getting to do something that I love to do, but upset because the owners just keep bragging that the company has so much business demand and that we are set. The owners say that they care about the staffs well being and happiness. Then get us affordable health insurance…

Maybe the recession has already here, dunno, BUT not the point. This may be super obvious to folks but management can’t wait for shit to get really bad so they can start offering lower wages. A comment I keep hearing during staff meetings is that we’ve had to go through multiple rounds of hiring bc folks are leaving for higher paying jobs. Several people declined the position of administrative assistant as they’re getting offers of 80k-100k. A director literally said he is looking forward to people getting desperate so they can lowball them once again. Oh, and please keep talking about wages with colleagues – its pissing off leadership so much and there’s not a damn thing they can do!

I went to an early appointment to get my tires changed today. 8am door opens and only one guy doing all the intake. He's tired, more people stop by to drop off their cars. We chat while he's doing intake for my car and he told me he hasn't taken vacation in years. He said he doesn't even have time to take lunch since he gets in trouble if he's not availabe during lunch. His manager tells him to take lunch, but there is no one to cover his break. I stop by again later that day to get my car. It's slower in the afternoon so we talk more, and I tell him he needs to talk to HR if his manager can't give him workable solutions for taking lunch.
