CEO had to layoff ‘hella’ people, but the decision effected ‘me’ more than anyone else. Can’t you tell by his ecstatic grin?

Work wants to use my personal phone for free

So, I've had many jobs that require you to install a app to your phone, either for clicking in/out, accessing resources, or whatever. But now my employer is discontinuing the crappy VOIP app they gave us and expect me to use my personal phone number for work purposes. They say it's because most employees don't use it, so it's a wasted expense. That's because the app sucks and rarely worked, so people couldn't use it since day 1. I guess I was one of the few that delt with it so I wouldn't need to provide my personal line. In my field of work it's expected that we have a phone number for clients to contact us. I've worked several jobs with the same role, and always been given a reimbursement to get a work line or altogether given a work phone. Is it just me, or is it crazy…

What is going with this sub?

First off, this is definitely not for everyone on this sub. A small group. I liked this sub because while I’m doing very and like my job I fucking hate knowing other people don’t have that luxury. Awful management abusing individuals knowing they desperately rely on and their barely livable wages (and sometimes not even livable.) Exploitation of my fellow who simply wants to exist modestly and comfortably. This movement means something, but more and more lately I see posts of people, and I’m going to be very blunt here, being inconsiderate and entitled posting things that they know will get them tons of karma here and it always does. There was a post a little while back where a guy texted his boss saying (slight paraphrasing) “I’m not coming and won’t be again” his boss immediately said “is everything okay?” “Is there anything I can do?” OP responded “you…

Huge medical Corporation takes food scraps for homeless, gives to employees as “benefit”

A friend delivers food for an organization in our city that takes food donations from restaurants and brings it to homeless shelters and food pantries. The food is about to expire and would go to waste otherwise. She told me recently that she has been making a lot of deliveries to the one of the big hospitals, which is part of a very profitable and renowned medical school and many hospitals around town. She said that the hospital takes the food donations and puts it in a food pantry that lower-wage employees can “shop” in for food they need. They call this one of the “benefits” to their employees, instead of paying them more. The medical group made 7 billion last year, almost twice what their competitors made. Their CEO rakes it in as well, of course, while rotting vegetables and containers of hummus are offered to the lower paid…

Can you please volunteer to do extra work for free?

I work in an office for a medium sized company that has links to hospitality and events. One of the board members sent out an email today asking office staff to volunteer to work a few four hour shifts during a big event that is on each night for several weeks. The only payment is a “chance to win two tickets to the event”. So not only would you not get paid at all for working at a bar after a full day working your day job, you’re not even guaranteed to get two tickets for the event (my guess is one person on each shift would get two tickets). This surely falls under slave labour and I can’t believe the board signed off on this when it could easily be reported or leaked to the papers.

I was once fired for showing the company I worked for a security flaw on their software. It was deployed on every demo computer and register.

I worked at a big box, blue and yellow, electronic retailer from 2006-2009. I was fired in 2009 bc I found a very bad security flaw in their systems. I showed them that on any computer and any register I could easily setup torrenting and max out the bandwidth of the store. this went way high up to HR. what did this place do? they fired me, but my discount was still good for the day! I showed them how I did this in very fine detail and their software had a huge flaw and their network was at great risk. mind you I didn't download anything at all to any computer that was illegal. I showed them how anyone could put a torrent client on any computer and register in the store. I could easily download any torrent from anywhere and clog any stores network all while this would…
