Title says it all. Law firms are behind the times in their pay and junior lawyers earn less than people with entry level jobs (no offence to them!) after 4 years of university and passing the bar admission exam. It sucks, and it feels like I made a huge mistakenl following this career path.
So my manager gave me an unannounced call (at 12:30!) about how I was getting on with work. He then says he's worried about my time keeping because some things are adding up… Bear in mind that he's been on leave intermittently and I've been on holiday for more than 2 weeks (that he approved)… He then proceeds to say a project is taking too long and that he thought it wouldn't take very long. Completely forgetting that he started micro managing it and making me add a lot of unnecessary time consuming parts. He also forgot that my colleague had come up with mini deadlines for each part of the project, which he agreed to and I have been adhering to. Then he starts to talk about a recent meeting where I was late (he wasn't in this meeting) and he said 'you didn't even send a message”. I…
It's them that got all the money, but no pay rises for me when there's 10% inflation… And blaming it on just because I got a promotion last year?? That's mutually exclusive. I quit.
New job…but for how long?
I started a new job yesterday. It’s a machine operator position at a manufacturing facility. Some backstory: I was diagnosed with cancer last spring. I went out of work to undergo chemotherapy, lymph node removal, etc. I did not qualify for FMLA so could not keep my previous job. Now (in remission) I accepted this current job offer as I desperately needed to get back to work. So my first day begins with about an hour of introductions, safety slides, videos about why this is a great place to work, and the usual orientation stuff just heavily condensed. By 9am I’m out on the floor being “trained” on the machine I’m to run. For what it’s worth, the guy training me was fine and for the most part helpful until the supervisor pulled him away to do another job around 10:30. I’m left on my own to run this machine.…
I just started my first day at a well known discount store that sells clothes and home goods. I have some back issues (which they knew about when they hired me) and I also get extremely thirsty due to medications. I explained all of this to them. My first day they put me to work in the fitting room where you just stand all shift and watch people go in and out to make sure they aren't stealing. I wasn't allowed a chair or even allowed to have my water bottle. I was told I needed a doctor's note for these basic human comforts. I just don't understand why. It pissed me off so much that I left early. I was already hurting so bad because of my back from standing for two hours straight on hard floors. I didn't even have a comfort mat to stand on. Why do…

Union busting is a thing in Poland to.
Protesters from Polish trade union, Stronger Together in Teleperformance, which is affiliated to UNI Global Union through the NSZZ ‘Solidarność’ federation, alongside two MPs – Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk and Maciej Konieczny – gathered in solidarity with the union’s Vice-President, Agnieszka Paterak, who has been targeted by the company. Protected in her position under Polish labour law, this has not stopped Teleperformance Poland doing everything in its power to undermine the union leader even though the harassment and discrimination of trade union leaders is also illegal. Agnieszka is one of 55 people on her account, where she was employed to work remotely, as do all the other staff servicing the multinational company. However, last month she was singled out and told she could no longer work from home and that her new workplace was now the call centre offices in Warsaw. Agnieszka lives 300km away from the capital with her parents. She…
