Love my job, hate the company.

I recently took a supervisory role, and was ignorant in assuming I could or should start before it was made official. I took the job knowing I'd be paid less while doing more– but I work with kids that I adore in a program that is a joke, so having the chance to make improvements and genuinely help them made that “okay”. I worked for a month and a half making unnecessary and excessive (unreasonably so, in hindsight) accommodations for the program that left me unable to perform job duties without putting in extra hours. Only to find out that despite having signed the paper and agreed to wages I'm not going to be paid it. Because when I submitted the request for adjustment they merged the position with my current one. So I was effectively terminated as leadership, with no notice (even after the fact only told by a…

Rant about first serious job

So I work at a pretty popular fast food company and it's my first full time job- I have multiple disabilities and am really struggling with the environment and have experienced multiple accounts of transphobia in my first week of working. I think I'm going to need to find another job but I just feel so beaten up by the working world already, I don't know how people do this 🙁

Question: is the American hiring process insane due to outsourcing?

I am horrified reading about the American hiring process. I just read this and was like WTF 10 HIRING INTERVIEWS. In Finland you are interviewed once. If you get a second interview it means you've been selected and it's about technical stuff like salary, benefits etc. I think this is because the interviewers are just regular bosses so the time it takes to interview is away from actual work. The prescreening of applicants is done by, shock, reading the CVs. As far as my understanding goes, it seems to be typical that American companies outsource the hiring process. So if the hiring company drags out the process, they might milk more money out of the outsourcing company. Therefore it would make sense to have indefinite number of interview rounds. They could always say that it's because 'they want to make sure they thoroughly investigate people before hiring'. Does this make…

Earlier post

So I posted earlier about my experience at an over time shift today, and I think I deleted it out of paranoia of being doxxed. Was a pretty specific comment to make and im not sure who at work is a redditor blah blah, but one thing that I want to remind all of us: recording laws. The cameras in our pockets are one of the most powerful tools we have to fight back against the bs of this system. If you're state is a one party consent state, record your interactions with the volatile managers and coworkers. Record everything, take notes, we have to be putting pressure on them as much as possible to continue tipping scales in our favor.

Has a service situation ever changed how you want to fight for your fellow people?

I used to work for a large property management company. I would collect rents and serve 3 day notices for those who were not on time. There were a number of alcoholics that couldn’t pay but I was also seeing people priced out. I once went to the court to represent this evil company against the sweetest woman that couldn’t keep up with the price hike after being there for 30 years. She actually hugged me at the court house and said she was so scared. I gave her the best advice I could for her own success and to not give a crap about paying back her debt with my company right away. They will want their money but you don’t need to pay it back in a lump sum. Stretch it out. As long as you don’t get sent to collections, you’re okay. I quit my job soon…
