Every job I've had tricks you into working more hours than you signed up for. Usually it's just managers that have no shame begging you to stay late or come in early for every shift, or “temporary demand” where they refuse to hire someone else because they can make you take on their work. But I got hired at Amazon recently for a very part time 16 hour week position. They didn't inform us until after being hired that there is a thing called a flex hour, that can go up or down based on the day's particular demand. So my standard 4 hour shift could end up being anywhere between 3-5 hours. Except its ALWAYS 5 hours. I have deadass never worked a 4 hour day or 16 hour week. I just need to vent since I'm mad. I'm a very cheap intern to this company. But they just called me back after calling in sick to say I don't have to com back. I only started last year and I told them at the start I have mental issues, which I often have trouble with so that it's possible I'm sick more often. Not even a month ago they were happy that I wanted to stay another year as intern and now they fired me. And to start this was all vacation work since I'm not obliged to work at the moment. But they really needed extra help. My third internship and the third time I got laid off for bullshit reasons.

Anyone else have some strange/infuriating interviews since the pandemic came around in 2019? I remember a few years back interviewing with a company and it was the strangest experience of my life. Ended up doing 3 with them and actually went off on the CEO (Small company of about 20). It made me really question my whole concept of work in our current system.

Hello folks, I think about posting to this sub quite a bit and never do, finally changing that. I work in traffic control for one of the biggest companies and they screw us over at every chance they can get. I finally get paid 16 and hour after almost 2 years (2 years in October). We are out here protecting work crews that are making 30 to 60 dollars and hour. While we are the first line of defense and basically fodder to protect them. There are accidents happening all the time in our zone. Literally yesterday a suv came flying and smashed into an employees truck while cleaning up the zone and breaking signs down. I can't even save up enough money with bills and everything to buy a car to get a different job. I'm stuck risking my life for chump change. Having to work 80 hours a…
