Fed-up and really scared
Hello, I’m new here in R, so please be gentle 🙂 I have been working for this company (high end retail and commercial construction) for 12 years, now I’m on sick leave because I’m burned out completely… For the past 4 months I’m a veg but working to get out of it. With covid and all, people were renovating A LOT and we’re all burned to a crisp, so I asked my manager how can I physically handle all the clients and the huge load of work. He told me, in front if my designer client to start drinking. This is a family owned company in Montreal, they are rich and powerful and the employees are divided in social classes: the Family, the Untouchables, the Nieces and Nephews and….the rest of us. I was told at almost every performance evaluation that my culture (I’m European) is a problem… and at…
just saying
I live in Austria and every summerseason I'm working on a cottage in the mountains in a tourists area. This summer was no exception, but I quit back after the first week. Why you ask? Because the boss lady is a manipulative horny alcoholic bitch. When I arrived she already reeked of alcohol and couldn't talk straight. She touched my upper body and face numerous times telling me I'm such an attractive young men. Sadly only old women, young adolescent girls and gay men find my babyface attractive :') but that's beside the point. The rooms for the workers are in the basement, where all the other stuff is located. Also the dispenser for beverages is also in the basement and is turned on 24/7, right beside our rooms. Also the side of the room where the window is is also the entrance, which is constantly used by the waiters.…
After finishing University, with a Degree in Public Relations, I (M21 at the time) started my career (albeit brief) in sports media and communication. The Communications Manager was also new, and was 'rebuilding' the now 2-person department and asked if I knew of anyone from University who would be interested in joining (at this point, I was still an unpaid intern until the role was finalised) So trying to help out, I source a buddy from my University course to join the Communications team (also as an unpaid intern), and the department starts gaining traction for Soccer (football) in our area and seems to be going well, along with receiving praise from other departments for my initiatives and quality of output. Less than 3 months later, I get called in to a meeting by the relatively new Communications Manager, telling me he doesn't think Media and Communications is for me…
If your job makes you cry, quit your job
I am getting laid off today.
My direct Boss (she is a real sweetheart and the best boss I ever had) told me yesterday under tears, that the upper management is going to close our whole department. In the last few months this company has gone to shit. I am not going to get into much detail here, but it has something to do with the war in the ukraine and the EU sanctions. Our company has a majority of russian shareholders. I think that they will eventually close down in a few months. It hurts bad, because in all my career, this was the first company I really enjoyed working at and wasn't exploited. The pay was good and the team was awesome. Many people have already left the sinking boat, but today they will fire our whole Division. I am ao fed up, since the Start of the pandemic, i had to look for…
A Story of the Old Days
People are constantly asking about quitting their jobs, giving notice… how to step back from the master/servant relationship. This story took place almost 30 years ago. I was a kid, got a job in a video store. Started at the very bottom, became an assistant manager and then a mobile trainer opening new locations and indoctrinating fresh crews of employees. Never even had a name on my paycheck, always just a number. I watched the seasons change four times staring out and across the front parking lot. Graveyard shifts in between the travelling around. I barely made enough to scrape by and that was back when life was still cheap and I lived in communal housing the whole time. The fourth year, watching the snow build up again, I just couldn't do it any longer. I hated the place. I was broken from the constant crap I had to eat…
Split Raise?
Been working a job in tech for 6 years at the bottom, interested in data and analytics, my teams manager quit due to work life balance issues new family with kid on the way. Team has been without direct management for 8 months, wage offered was too low to hire some one they liked I guess. They ended up asking me said they liked how I helped out and kept things together, offered me 20k raise from 50k to 70k to do it. So I applied, Been about 2 months now that I have been unofficially in the role and have now been told they only have budget to give me half the raise, (10k), but will give me another 10k raise next year. Still have not even seen a new contract, is this a thing or am I being taken for a ride.
