My current job/company isn’t that bad compared to some others out there but the one thing I cannot stand is the sheer amount of meetings we all have to book. Nothing can be done over email. We all must get on Teams or Zoom to discuss. And we have to be on camera. Barf. I’m taking care of a sick, elderly parent, which I’ve made everyone aware of. I’ve blocked time off on my calendar that I dedicate to doctor’s appointments, physical therapy, insurance shenanigans, etc. They are clearly labeled and only 1 hour per day. No one in my company respects these blocks of time. I stopped showing up to the meetings that were scheduled over my blocks. Someone got pissy and reported me to my boss. I told her very politely but firmly that my family comes first and that if this company really lived up to it’s…

When I’m on the bus or walking
I see people in their homes reclined, in leisure wear, having the brain power to work via laptop, but I also see outside of their homes homeless people just a few feet away from their steps without any energy or conditions to see their self-worth. It just boggles my mind—the unfairness and quality of the world. I am trying to wrap my head around things but I do refuse to accept that “things are just the way they are”

Bit of a backstory: I work in retail, while also being introverted (and generally spending my free time with family, or on my own). I also work 40 hours a week, so my free time is valuable to me. As such, I usually keep my work life and “real life” separate. While I tend to get along with my coworkers, I don't want to hang out with them after work. A few times, coworkers have asked me to hang out after work. I've declined, because of what I said before. They seem ok with it, as they still talk to me at work AITA for doing so? Declining to hang out with coworkers, I mean
I've been out of work since December but had enough saved up that I was okay up until now. Applied at a couple places but decided to try a car wash not too far from my house. Right away in the interview (if you could call it that, I walked in and they asked when I could start) the manager was complaining about his current employees being “teenagers who don't want to work”. Yea ok whatever I've had some co-workers like that no big deal. Then he says to get there on my starting date “about 7:30 or 7:45ish” now this might be normal I'm not sure but I really don't like having to guess when he actually wants me to get there to start my shift. But my first day comes, I get there at 7:30 and I need to show them my drivers license and ssn. I give…
I thought this sub get a good chuckle out of a story from old job, where they where so inept that they didn't notice gave myself Raise for over 9 months until they notice and I got told off for it. So this was over 5 years ago, I had been working for the company for at lease 5 years as Full time Casual and was supervising 2-3 days a week. At the job, the company had different tiers of pay, depending on your experience with the company and that including a three tier system for supervising pay. So I wanted too know how I could bump myself up too next pay tier, but they never would get back too me email, SMS or even face too face, So I thought push them for a response. An aspect of the company was that we where STILL doing our own paper…
Hello all, i’m not entirely sure if this situation fits here but here goes. TW for r*pe and harassment. this is also a rather long post because i don’t want to omit any details. I work at a chain store. for context, the characters in this story are “High Manager (F40)”, “Mid Manager (F40)”, and “culprit (M36)”, who is also a mid-level manager. Culprit works in an area of the store with primarily female minors, and the other two managers work in the back-of-house. Four months ago, Culprit had sx with one of his subordinates, F17. The consent laws in my state say, the age of consent is 16, as long as the older party is not in a position of authority over them (coach, teacher, anyone in uniform, MANAGER, etc.) F17 was at the age of consent, yes, but Culprit was in a position of power over her. This…
https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2022/07/12/victorias-secret-cuts-160-management-jobs/10043110002/ I’m one of the 160 layoffs at VS HQ. I have roughly 9 years with the brand as a contractor/freelancer as well as being full time associate status. To be crystal clear. They treated me okay from a financial standpoint. I made good money (final salary was 120k + Bonus as a 33 year old manager with no direct reports. Took 10 years to get there though). I got to travel a lot. Even with my wife sometimes on their dime! (Europe a bunch, Asia, Canada, ~20 states. Private Jets. I’ve sat in countless meetings with Les Wexner. Gone to a Fashion Show. All of it. What I never got, was a raise while I worked there, outside the sub-3% cost of living increase… I was blinded by money. 120k is pretty good in my book. Somewhat decent benefits. WFH. Discounts. 3% 401k match. Etc. Not bad. What sucks…
