Let go out of nowhere
I was blindsided at work today when I got pulled into the office by my director and manager. I’ve been working at this place for four months, I’ve been doing well and working hard. Last month I got a raise and as far as I knew everything was great. I had a work event tomorrow that I was organizing, and I was so excited for it. Then out of nowhere I was let go today due to “customer complaints”. Apparently I turn my back on customers when they need help, or something along those lines? Which is not true, I always help people and if I’m busy helping one person and another walks up I tell them I’ll be right with them. But according to my director this has been going on for a while now and rather than discuss with me when it first happened, or give me a…
So i am a cashier/ bagger at a grocery store. And tonight i had to help a woman with her groceries. and she wanted to tip me, but i had to refuse because tipping is not allowed. This is why i don't care about my job. I'm doing two jobs at once for the same price as a cashier (because i am a cashier) but since most of the time i have to bag my lanes' groceries, plus the other cashiers' lanes, plus help people out at times, i'm also a courtesy clerk. All for the high price of $13.45 per hour I'm sorry if we're forced to do two jobs at once we should get paid more or be allowed to accept tips. Because technically if you want you want to get real, i'm not even supposed to bag people's groceries or help them out, because it's not part…
Management sent out a mass email today to let everyone know that there is ice cream available in the break rooms. The email said the reason for the ice cream is because we “all do such a great job” and because of the heatwave. I just wanted to reply to all and say “Fuck your ice cream! I don’t care how damn hot it is, if you want to show we’re appreciated show us with money!” But of course I didn’t, I just rolled my eyes and moved yet another useless email from management to the trash folder. And then I went and got my ice cream.
sorry, just need to rant.
i work at an independently owned and operated hotel, been here for almost a year, it’ll be a year in october. i’ve done nothing but bend over backwards for the owner and the general manager. i’ve had to deal with overbooking situations, being here alone when the hotel is extremely busy, being screamed at by guests, covering shifts for night audit, and spending literally every waking moment here trying to atleast make some sort of good money. i get paid $14.25 an hour to deal with my coworkers treating me like i’m stupid going as far to telling me how to do my job and gloating about their paychecks when i don’t even have enough money to pay rent or buy food, no place to sit during my shifts and being yelled at when i do sit and take a break by the owner, being told i’m “sleeping on the…
Your PTO and sick time are apart of your compensation plan. You don’t feel guilty for collecting your paycheck, you expect it. Remember that next time you’re submitting your PTO request and your boss gaslights you about using it.
Does anyone just hate this world?
It gets exhausting having to constantly compete with others just to survive. And the condescending behavior toward others just gets old. I will not say what I do for a living, but I actually get irritated when older co-workers of mine condescend towards our new younger ones. It actually aggravates me. I actually prefer more upfront aggression in comparison to passive aggression. I guess the teachers I had in high school left a bad mark on my mind I guess. The older I get, the more I realize how wrong so many of the adults were, and I just hate them more the more I think about them. My unpopular opinion. Yes, teachers should be paid more but I would wish people would just stop praising them like angels. There are too many bad teachers. Not only do we need to pay them more, but we need to heighten standards…
An Obituary for a Boomer
I know it seems an unlikely sub to post this on. But when I ponder the implications, this sub comes to mind the most. Read on and you will understand. Per sub rules, there is no identifying information. I know this comes off as more antiboomer than antiwork, but work culture contributes a lot to this story. This is a story of a man I knew in real life before he passed away. He was born in poverty in 1949. He grew up with little to no rules or supervision, was never a good student and suffered most of his life with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, or at least that's what we think he had, he had all the symptoms, but refused to ever admit he was the source of any problems or to seek diagnosis and treatment. Unable to complete or maintain school he dropped out of high school in…
I am getting real irritated with my school's prinpcal. I told her a week or two ago that I would be happy doing dayshift either permanently or until we get someone hired. The hours for dayshift is the same for all schools. Being 6-2:30pm. She is trying to see if I do dayshift, it would be 10-6:30pm. Which is considered afternoon shift, which is not done in elementary schools. Just middle and high schools. When I see her, Imma tell her that if I do dayshift, I will do hours day shift is supposed to be at which is the 6-2:30pm. If she says she would rather do 10-6:30, I will just tell her to keep me on nightahift and she can find someone else to do dayshift. I was wanting day shift so I could find a part time job or be able to have more time with family.…
