[UK] told my boss I caught covid and his response made me feel sick

Long story short I unfortunately caught covid and am currently in bed feeling sorry for myself but at this rate I’m gonna milk my symptoms as long as possible because of the way I’m being treated (heck I’m not being paid for this time off now due to new covid rules in my country). I messaged my boss as soon as I got a positive result and his words are “poor me I can’t deal with this stress” and then a whole paragraph saying that I need to look in a “different direction” as he thinks food retail is not for me. He claims I’m not happy with my current role of supervisor and my people management skills need work when he’s hired nothing but useless kids who give me attitude when I instruct them to do a task (I’m a chill supervisor who knows working is bullshit) or don’t…

Hybrid WFH to “Expected” Daily In-Office

Use to be able to work from home hybrid situation, 2 days WFH, 3 days in office, now that is changing. HR just sent the memo out tonight at 9pm… I was going to WFH tomorrow, but now they are expecting me to come in… I don't abuse the policy but being punished as if I am. What should I do?

Anybody notice how some subreddits are very antiworker?

Throwaway account. Anyways. I asked for some advice from another subreddit about putting a down payment on a home. You can probably guess which one. Anyways basically they all told me the same few anwers. You need to save more first, your income is too low, your credit score is too low, and my favorite you can't afford it with your income. So what do these people really expect lol? Somehow I can afford 1500$ in rent but I can't afford a mortgage that would be similar or less even after insurance and taxes. Also for the record I make 65k gross. I have 40k in Savings, and my credit score is almost 700, and have absolutely no debt except for a 2021 car with a balance of 10k lol. The home price I was looking for is around 220k…which is a near brand new home in my area. It's…

Got my first ‘normal’ job and everyone is excited for me except myself

I've always been self employed as a musician but never earned enough to move out of my parent's place. Now that I scored this white collar job, I know I should be happy to progress in life. But I feel like I'm signing my soul away. The company is apparently a great place to work but they give me “We're family here” vibes. I don't care about your mission statement or your KPIs. I just want to play music until I die.

Need to rant. I just got turned down for my second promotion in my company. I feel like both opportunities were given to the less qualified candidate.

I work for a pretty well known company as an engineer. I have ~8 years of experience. I’m at a level 2 and have been applying for senior level engineer positions at other plants in the company (rankings go associate, lv 1, lv 2, senior, then manager). I have a bachelors in my engineering field, a masters in business admin, and certification as a professional in my field. When a position is posted, my company requires a max of 3 candidates and communication between managers is prohibited. The senior role typically means you manage a team. In the first job I was told the other candidate that got the job was because she had direct report experience. But in the interview they let slip the other two candidates were already working at the plant. Both had graduated

New-hires get better pay/ treatment with less experience?

So I’m a full time ASE Certified Automotive Technician at a research and development company. We develop/install aftermarket parts on cars and test how much better they function vs stock parts. It’s a super cool job other than the fact that I turned cars from a fun hobby/pastime into a full time job (I regret it a lot). So I’ve worked at this company for 5 years without incident. I do my job well, I don’t miss work, I barely use vacation time etc. Last month a new tech started in the junior tech position. Meaning he doesn’t have a ton of automotive experience. Still knows what he’s doing mostly just not to the level of me or our master tech. It’s essentially a starting position so we can train him how to do things and get better as a tech. They started him off making 4 dollars more an…

First day at new job yesterday. I ghosted and didn’t show up today. They didn’t even try calling.

I have never done anything like this before. I’m 24 and haven’t been unemployed since high school. I went in yesterday for my first day (recently left my job of 4.5 years) and found out I was completely misled about the schedule/hours. I was expected to stay 2-2.5 hours late several days a week. I was told we got out early every Friday. Also was told this wasn’t true. I work in healthcare and pay was decent for the position but not worth the bullshit of not knowing when I’ll be home and if I can make plans for after work or what! I refuse to revolve my life around a job that doesn’t give a shit about me. I thought they’d at least TRY calling today when I didn’t show up, but nope. I could’ve died in an accident for all they know. Waking up today and knowing I…

I’m being paid less for the same job

My company is hiring someone for the same position I currently have. There are a couple of others who hold the same job title/description as I do. The salary range listed on the job posting is almost 10K higher than my salary at the lowest end, 20K higher at the highest end. I am fairly sure everyone else who holds the same role is being paid within that range. I've been at this company longer than anyone else in my department and I can't discern any particularly sizeable gaps in prior experience or qualifications that would account for my salary being so much lower. This isn't the first time this has happened. I raised this issue before when they were hiring and I noticed I was paid lower. Except when I did that I was just retaliated against and told I had to “trust” my manager wouldn't be discriminatory (thought…
