I Finally Quit My Job That Regularly Gave Me Panic Attacks

To keep it short and simple: I used to work at a vet clinic. Key word used to because as of tonight I am officially unemployed. After working at the clinic for two years I’d finally had enough of the harassment and horrible management. I was regularly disciplined in front of other employees, sometimes by being screamed at, or other times my mistakes were written on a white board for all to see. Mistakes were anything as small as forgetting to move a post-it note to a new page in a chart, or using “too much paper”. My “office manager” has made comments to me over the years such as “you look homeless”, “you need to get thicker skin if you want to work here” “why are you so bad at your job” (even though she trained me, haha) I started to accept this type of work environment as normal,…

My current job is destroying my mental and physical health, but I feel guilty as hell about quitting. I need you guys to encourage me to quit. Everyone else in my life (and my supervisors) are encouraging me not to.

Basically the title. I really hate what American work culture does to people, and what it's done to me. Been at this awful company for nearly 4 years and it's been a roller coaster. Unorganized, unethical, uncaring, stingy as hell (despite the fact they make plenty of money…the owner is loaded). I'm always incredibly broke and incredibly stressed. I only ever stayed because they send us out to clients, and I feel obligated to them. The clients themselves haven't done anything wrong, and my current ones are so nice. But the nature of the work is so physically and emotionally difficult that 75% of people burn out on this job and leave. I should've quit ages ago, but something would always be in the way – I had to finish school, the pandemic happened and there's no work elsewhere, I really like this particular client and want to work with…

Slight rant

I’m on the job hunt again and I’m trying to look for a remote job in accounting. Ziprecruiter, Indeed, and LinkedIn are the main job posting sites I use and it’s pissing me off. I’ve got about two years of experience, mostly through staffing agencies, and a lot of remote accounting jobs I’m coming across are Seniors, managers, directors, and generally anyone with 5-10+ years of experience and boomers. It kills me that boomer were crying all the time about on site working and going back to the office, and these assholes are the ones that companies want to offer remote work, my dad included. He never worked remote and didn’t want to but then he starts talking about how it would be great during winter. I expressed my frustrations about my difficulty finding the job I want and he said my generation needs to pay its dues instead of…

University Food-Court Affiliation Runs on Dirty Bathrooms!

The headline tells it all! The men's restroom was decommissioned for months because literal shit was all over the floors! The womans restroom has shit-smeared toilet rims, overflowing tampon waste bins, zero toilet paper, zero soap, zero paper towels. The water runs though! There are bathrooms from the university itself about 300 yards down so it's fine to walk, right? Oh hey that's not all! The floors are never swept and mopped. I say it hasn't been done and over a month. Did I mention we're a food court? That means 5 different fast food chains are in and out between the hours of 5 AM and 6 PM! 5 days a week. There is rotten food in the fridges and freezers, where there's two of each. They tell us to serve the food around the molded food! “Produce is expensive and just because we don't use it fast enough…

While a great gesture, it’s more of advertising than anything. The “Average hourly pay” there is $9.62-$18.83. That’s $100,000 not put directly into the pockets that keep your business alive.

Do I chase job satisfaction or money?

I know this isn’t really the right spot to be posting this but man I love this sub and want to hear all your opinions on this. I’ve recently had 2 job interviews which went really well, from 2 very different industries, with a significant pay difference. Looking for a bit of advice about which way to go. I should also say I haven’t got a definite offer from either yet, but it’s stressing me out nonetheless. Bit of a background about me, I’m 23, Mechanical Fitter currently working in my trade. Single, no kids, no debt besides my trade support loan. Currently rent a room in a house my friend owns. Not really struggling but wouldn’t say I’m getting ahead too quickly. Job 1: Project Firefighter for SA National parks. Local job, when not firefighting the crew is doing park maintenance and land clearing. Got a best mate who…

Are fewer workplaces offering breaks?

Nearly every place I worked (am middle age) until about a year ago would give breaks every two hours. Now I'm seeing places only offer a break at four hours, offer no lunch at four to six hours, and basically just working the life out of people. I was in a couple jobs like this that I left, my brother is in this situation, and I have friends in this situation. Has anyone else been seeing this?
